I have been searching for a wile and do not see a match for my problem. I ran my 97 D1 2wks ago and it was fine. I have never had any real problems till now. I started it tonight and it fired up like normal and then I noticed a slight miss. It was low on gas, light was on so I thought it was out of gas. I put some fresh gas in, light went off but still had a slight miss at Idle, NO POWER,will not rev smooth or much at all, and backfire sound in intake. It just feels out of gas. I do not think it is spark related because new plugs and wires in January and has been fine. I get 14MPG. Truck has 110k miles. I am going to check fuel presure in the morning. Also when I turn the key you can hear fuel pump for over 5 seconds it is more like 10 seconds. Thanks for any help...

Could be the fuel pump. Sitting with low fuel and then perhaps running a little dry at first might have killed your pump. If its the original pump, it is getting long in the tooth at 110K.

So this does sound like fuel pump is done? What should pressure be at fuel rail. Also as bad as it runs there are no codes.

Well I thought all was fine and that maby injectors were gumed up be cause it has run fine for 3 days in a row. Now I let it sit w/ a full tank this week and it starts right up and off I went. All was good untill 4 miles from my house it lost all power and developed a missfire. I had to limp home I could only give 1/4 gas or it felt like it would shut off. I made it home it never once had a check engine light. I let it set wile I went to a football game when I got home it started right up and reved fine and did not miss. Any thoughts?

excess fuel, missfiring, backfire...........

Sounds to me like the MAF sensor.

I have not had this problem again. It has happend 2 times and I do not want to be far from home if it happens again. I did a fuel pressure check and it was 35 (psi) at idel and went up as I reved it. I am going to drive it till it does it the next time, I will have tester with me.

I still have this problem. If I drive it every day it is normal but if I park it happens. On Friday it ran perfect came home and parked it for the weekend and now it has the misfire. It sat untouched for 3 days. Today when I started it fired right up and has a normal idle. The second you give it gas it has a loss of power at about 1500 RPM and misses and backfires in intake. It is so bad that you can not go up the slight incline in my drive way. Now that I parked it and let it idle it slowly gets better. I finally parked it and went back and it is fine now, like nothing happened. It will be fine unless it sets. It is almost like something is wet and it makes it miss and sputter until it dries out. The fuel pressure was fine wile it was having this problem, so pump is good.

You ran it low then filled up and it runs like crud.

Perhaps you stirred up crud in the tank and the filter is blocked. Perhaps also you got a bad load of fuel

I thought that at first but I have full pressure at fuel rail. I had code P1178 come up 3 times in October but this problem never happened with the code before or after. This seems to only happen if truck is parked for a 2 day span.
