lately i have noticed that when i start up the truck it has a tendency to almost stall. it did stall twice. in the morning when its cold it seems to start up fine..maybe everyonce in a while it will almost stall. if i gas it then its fine. it seems to happen more when the engine is hot.

my plugs are almost a year old now and i know that my cap, rotor and wires need to be replaced. could this be the problem? other than that it runs fine.
could it be the starter solenoic?

thanks all

fuel filter, fuel pump, dirty air lines and/or intake, dirty T-piece, fuel temp switch, dirty injectors, problems with spark plugs, plroblems with wires, clogged cats & etc..

normally turned out to be worn fuel pump, clogged fuel filter and air issues (lines, throttle, t-piece, stepper motor).

ok its not your starter solenoid. thats only used during the cranking position. now if its stalling or close to it, i would go right to the idle air control valve. IAC, some call it a stepper motor. either name works. check here in the tech section under cross reference parts for an after market one. Now be aware that this part has a learning curve. and takes a lil bit to get comfy and set it self to your engine parameters.
Second, a colant temp sensor will cause this also. the coolant sensor asumes the job of a choke and will trim fuel delivery as necesary to adapt to ambient outside temps. now again this is a coolant sensor that tells the ECM what happening, its not the sensor that tells your engine temp on the dash indicator
The coolant sensor can get corroded and not function proper. i have heard of fuel temp sending units creating a problem similar to yours, but my first two sugestions are far more common then the fuel temp sensor. ;)

im leaning toward the coolant temp sensor. if i rember correctly after looking at this weekend it was pretty coroded. i also checked the stepper. its only about a year and half old. anyway had a little build up on it. nothing to bad. cleaned it off and checked inside plenume chamber and nothing seems to be gunked up or clogged. i may have to check out the stepper motor and make sure it works. turn truck over and see if it moves. i will check hoses, but i checked just before our last baja trip in december and all was well.

i will double check the coolant temp sensor. how will i know if its bad? im pretty sure its coroded though...

also the stalling happens when i crank the engine to start it. it does not stall after it starts. in fact it runs just fine and idles fine. thanks for your input

Sounds to me like a bad stepper motor. By the sound of it you have a 94-95 D1 so no OBDII? I had a bad Stepper Motor and had a code thrown or P1509 so I replaced the IAC unit and all was well. My idle did the exact same thing as yours - it would idle fine when it was stopped or just after starting. It would just not start without giving it gas sometimes.

I have an extra IAC motor if you are interested in it - brand new. Let me know if your interested and we can make a deal...

Corey - there are two coolant temp sensors. One is for gauge and another is for mixture. One you need is for mixture. Its something like 200mOhm when engine warm and about 3000 mOhm when cold. But i may be wrong - those values shall be somewhere in RaveCD i think, but i cant find mine anymore - so i cant even recal where the heck mixture controlling one is residing.

My problem was also with the O2 sensors. My truck was doing just what you stated.

Mine as well does the same thing. Starts then stops or stalls ... Changed the fuel pump out, the fuel filter, and the 02 Upstream Sensors. I run 93 Octane. I am @ a loss so is my mechanic.

Ignition module and coil. Rest of O2 sensors, three temp. sensors (two coolant ones and one fuel), pressure regulator, charcoal canister...

I can go on :)
