Crazy...

Never ceases to amaze me how drunks manage to walk away completely unharmed from crashes like that.

One of my best friends died the same way, except he was the driver and the passenger walked away. 19, came into a shitload of money, partied like a rockstar, then tore his car in half at about 120mph on a tree. The only good thing that came out of that accident was that the passenger lived, and all of us didn't drink and drive (at least for a while).

Man that forum is a bunch of numpties. Apparently they think the bald tires were prior to the accident as opposed to being dragged every direction from the horrendous accident and that Range Rovers are weak for not being able to avoid ripping in half at accidents at 100 mph in residential 30 mph zones. They do have some funny butt rape prison comments and comments about the need for disentigrating utility poles.

wow..

ya we actually had a drunk broadside our bldg here at work a few weeks ago after blowing through the utility pole out front. police estimate he was doing ~110mph in a 25 when he lost control, through the pole into the side of the solid block building. guy jumped out of the car and ran a half mile before police caught up with him.

i couldnt tell you what kind of car it was (it was a ball of smashed metal and rubber) but we did find a nissan emblem and a side view mirror lodged in the foam insulation.

looking at the car i was more amazed anybody walked out of it, let alone ran out.

Wife & I watched a George Clooney movie last week; best line in entire film:

Wow!!! How?? How could anyone drunk or sober have walked away from that unscratched!! Thankfully he didn't take a dozen pedestrians out or a dozen other vehicles. Why does life so often seem to favor the terminally stupid? So sorry for his dead buddy whom he murdered in every sense of the word.

Ah, the joy of a unibody. Older body on frame would have wrapped around the pole without splitting. Probably killed both of them too.

Sorry, but a car spinning out of control isn't going to make a tire go bald. That tire was bald before the accident. I'm sure speed was more of an issue here than the tire, but that tire was bald before he lost control.

Not a very high resolution photo, you cant say with any certianty how much tread was on that tire before losing it. But you can see there is a real nice flat spot, which on a vehicle like this (ABS, traction control, etc) is hard to do unless going sideways at a high rate of speed.
