94 disco, has a 2 month old battery. I let the truck sit for a few hours, go to start it, and nothing, not even the interior lights go on. alternator was checked, and it is running strong. My other thoughts would be the fuel pump, as it has never been replaced 106,000 miles. I just don't know what could drain a relatively new the battery that quickly? Thank you for any help.

You can find out if you have a dead short someplace by doing following:

Get a test probe tester. Remove the posative battery cable. Hook lead end to removed posative battery cable then touch the probe to the posative post. If you get a light, then you have a dead short someplace, that will drain a battery quick. If no light, then it's something else (like something staying on even when key is off).

If you have a short (light came on), to track the short down to a specific area/item, you need to pull one fuse, then see if the light stays on or not. If it stays on, then that's not the problem area, put the fuse back, do one at a time until when you pull the fuse the light goes out. This will be the area you have the short in.

Before you do all that I'd check the posative battery cable all the way back to see if it's worn through someplace and is grounding on something.

Hope this helps. I went though this with a 77 Scout I have. Turned out to be fried wires under the dash causing the problem.

I am having the same problem with my 93 classic and finaly was able to take it to an auto electrition and found out that the alternator is draning the battery in a few hours. I good way to rule out your alternator is to disconect the wires on the alternator. Also just a bit of info i had the alternator tested at some of the auto parts stores and they told me it was good and the battery is brand new as well.

Thank you for the response. Where could I find a probe tester, is it like a circuit tester? also, I will try the alternator thing just to be sure. Thank-you.

2 hours? You don't need a tester. Whatever is draining a battery in 2 hours is hotter than Hell.

frickjp is right. When my alternator went bad the main wire on the back of the alternator melted. :victory: :patriot:
