It?s been a while since my trusty 97 D1 and I parted ways- had it from new and logged well over 100k- always a reliable and somewhat quirky beast as we all know- I?m fairly competent in the mechanical dept having restored BMW?s and triumphs for many a moon. ?I?m considering adding an 03 HSE to the stable, my question here is what sort of problems are we looking at in the 03-04 trucks? I?ve worked my way through leaky swivels, engine seals, ABS sensors- preventative maintenance and all the familiar miscellaneous electrical bugs- I just don?t have the time these days to rebuild engines, troubleshoot major tranny issues or replace transfer cases ( I have to keep my GF?s 5.7l Cherokee on the road as well : 0 ) and have a distinct dislike for giving my $?s to mechanics unless absolutely necessary. I plan on driving the Disco frequently hauling around most of the YAFL football team equipment and of course practicing my switchback skills on Black bear now and again-
I?m not familiar with the DII?s 03-04 and would love a highlight of the known prevalent issues from those of you that have been reading the boards frequently over the last year or so- I?ve done several searches here and it seems like there are oil pump / engine issues, tranny issues and several other rather serious problems surfacing- I do understand that the # of problems is relative and many of the engine issues surface before 30k miles- I?m looking for a truck with 40-60k on the clock.
