Re-Route Exhaust

I'm looking at re-routing my exhaust out via the left quarter panel (actually through a Rovertym rear bumper) on my 2003. I know they make rings that mount for flush-mount exhaust ports but I'm not sure what they're called or how to find one.

I'm also curious what effect removing the rear resonator has on the noise level of the system? This would help improve departure angle somewhat.

'01 w/ Greg Davis rear bumper here. Had a local muffler shop cut off the resonator and move the exhaust up out of the way. No perceptable noise increase by removing the resonator - just as they told me. They were so sure it wouldn't annoy me that even before they cut it off and re-routed the exhaust, they offered to put it back to stock if I didn't like it. I do.

I did that about three weeks ago on m D2. I used a 4" hole saw on the rear quarter from the inside out. The exhaust note at idle is sounds pretty good, but once the rpm rise the exhaust quiets down. I was initially a lttle worried about being too loud, but actually I'm quite happy with the way things turned out. good luck.

Sounds like a plan for the spring then.
I did my mod myself, one of the most inexpensive but cool mods out there....
Oh yeah, I bumped my exhaust up from 2.5" to 3" from the rear axle out.

Yeah, it'll have to go bigger to compensate for the turn. I'll have to do the math and figure out the backpressure and look at larger tube. Though removing the resonator should help that too.

Yeah, wonder if I can cut the hole with the bumper in place. Lots of WD40 and patience I suppose. I think it's 1/8th in plate where I want it to come throught. With the hitch off the resonator is the lowest part in the back for sure. I'd better hurry up and put in the extended range tank too (135 litre from 90 litre stock) so I can sort out the rear spring conversion as well. I like the SLS but after seeing the difference with just using the 3" lift+OME's with the swaybar disconnected the other day in ride comfort on the trail, well until the rear suspension hit the holes, it's a no-brainer to go to coils in the back at least, if not coilover.

I had to mod my exhaust because my harmonic resinator punched a hole in the exhaust pipe. I was loaded down nd went offroad. Needless to say that is when I realized I needed new supension. I had the muffler shop chop off my stock muffler and resenator, reroute around the HR, and throw on a flowmaster. It sounds awesome.
