Rear diff leaking

Hey guys I was crawling around underneath my 96 disco changing out my O2 sensors last night and noticed that where my rear drive shaft connects to the diff it is leaking from the diff. I have the rubber rotoflex joint instead of the u-joint. Does anyone know what I would need to do to fix this leak?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Kyle

On another note does anyone know a good rover mechanic in SLC?

I've got the same problem...it's a pinion seal that needs to be replaced. I ordered mine from Rovers North, they will need the numbers on the axle of the truck to match the correct part, but it wasn't too expensive. We haven't gotten around to replacing it yet, however.....just keep an eye on the fluid levels.

Check axle breather before you go too far.... they tend to clog and then the rear axle pressurizes and gear oil will get out wherever it can!!!! For some reason I seem to need to disconnect the breather banjo fitting about every 6 months to unblock it. Stops the leaks for me.....

Thanks for the input! Where can I find the axle breather?

its the little fitting on top of the axle to the side of the diff. it may or may not have a plastic tube coming out of it that runs up into the cab, depending if you a have a breather kit or not. use a wrench to take it out and blow it out

This guy spent 2 hours with me showing me what he could do and helping trouble shoot my d1 and RRC. Very smart, excellent pricing.

Thanks for the info on a good shop for my D1!!!!:victory:

Agree with the suggestion for Roverland. Ask for Mike. He did some driveline install on my truck and put in the 4.11s. He is friendly and does a good job. Price was very good. Tell him Jason with the black ROXS truck in Calgary says hi!
