We've been waiting 6 months for a new rear differential for our 2017 Disco with no end in sight for a getting a new or used one because of the worldwide JLR part shortages. Does anyone know if there is a diff rebuild kit for the disco 5's? I know they have them for the sports, older discos and range rovers.

Thanks!
Brian

Thats crazy. Theres gotta be something out there used. I would think its going to be the same accros the whole range of vehicles. Rang Rover Range Rover Sport and Discovery. The only difference should be open or electronic locking diff.

Yeah, it's crazy! The dealer was even authorized to look for used parts and they came up empty handed. We have looked high and low, called more places than we care to call. Everyone that lists one for sale doesn't have it when you contact them. We were told end of May for a new one and then the dealer called this last week and said it's been pushed to September now. Almost a year without the disco. I don't think they are the same across all the platforms.

Make them trade you out of it. If it’s still under warranty they should be making payments for you.
I’m recently retired from Land Rover. I was a shop foreman / dispatcher in the end. What you’re experiencing is the reason this car company is going to fail. A good dealership would be working hard to divorce you from that piece of shit. The American public won’t tolerate this type of total failure.
You did your part. You bought the vehicle. That contract you signed is a mutually binding instrument. They have failed.

Here’s the other thing Wheats. I’ve learned over the years that car companies buy axles and systems from other companies.
While Land Rover doesn’t sell the individual parts to fix that axle. Someone sold them to them.
Another thing I’ve learned over 4 decades in dealerships is that the good talent has left. They’re out there running specialty shops. Your best solution is probably tucked away in some little shithole shop. Actually sourcing bearings and seals and gear sets from the people who sold it to JLR. Some guy who’s not scared.

Thanks for the response. We tried to get them to buy the vehicle from us but they offered us well below wholesale (it was almost laughable). Own it free and clear but it is not under warranty and Land Rover North America has been on record saying if it was under warranty or newer they would be more desperate to get us the part. Because it is a 2017 they could give two shits about getting us the diff in a timely manner. The dealer has requested some emergency part request but obviously that isn’t working either. Numerous calls to Land Rover NA have gone nowhere.

Yeah, totally get that. We have multiple independent, Land Rover only shops looking for other options as well.

What you want is trade assistance. But maybe that’s just not going to work if it’s got a lot of miles. But I would agree they won’t buy it. But if they sold you a new one they would give you a good trade price.

I hope you’re right on the “American Public” comment. But in my experience, the wealth gap has generated a new consumer that doesn’t think for themselves and assume prices are high and feeling purchase pain that’s their extent of due diligence and a sign giving them comfort to make purchases. This fits nicely with JLR’s objective to be a fashion-first vehicle manufacturer and focus on the DEI demographic. Much like our elected officials, excuses are widely accepted today and JLR has taken that path and doubling down on the uninformed and disinterested consumer with money to spend and/or borrow.

Thinking a bit out of the box here, but Roverland parts sells reman diffs for the 2014-2017 RR Sport. The differentials are a bit different, but maybe they could rebuild yours if you sent it to them?? Worth asking at this point.

Thanks for the reply, I've talked to them several times about a complete differential but not about the rebuild process, if possible.

Tried car-part.com? You know people are wrecking these things, and if they’re being wrecked they’re going to dismantlers, and thus there should be a diff within your state or neighboring state now or soon sitting at one of those wrecking yards.
