What are some options for rear disc brakes for a Defender? I have seen Series trucks with them and I know Zeus UK sells a kit for Series truck. Anyone in the US sell a kit. I have a Salisbury rear end wich I guess is a Dana 60?

The eastiest way to do this is to fit an entier range-rover classic rear axle - easy as that!

Have you tried George at RDS? He might have a rear disc salisbury.

Jamie on pirate had a good set of pics on what is needed to convert from drums to rangie discs.

Basically new hub and a bracket for the caliper.

Having driven both the salisbury drums are just as good. Barring a lot of mud driving which eats drum brakes I would not be inclinded to change.

Back in the USA; Rockwood, PA
our 109 has the salisbury with drums on it and even totally loaded with everything but the kitchen sink, driving down the long CO passes, we never had any problems.

agree with Ron though that if you're into mud which really eats the pads even if you are careful in keeping everything clean, then disks are better.

Not much mud out here in California, at least not the deserts. I think I will just keep what I have and keep them in top shape. I have not had any problems with them I was just curious what options are out there.

It is very easy to do a conversion yourself - you just need someone to fabricate 2 brackets for you (if you can't do it). The parts you need are:

2x RRC hubs or 110 front hubs (early 110 not post '93 D110) - they narrowed the wheel bearing spacing on disco's defenders and RRC's after about '92-'93.
2x disc calipers - either RRC front, or any locally available ones like willwood (as long as they are at least 2-piston and about the right size - RRC rears are too small for a 110).
2x 110 or RRC FRONT discs
1x adjustable brake proportioning valve (willwood, volvo, etc).

2x brackets (these need to be fabricated) with longer grade 8 spindle-housing flange bolts - an off the shelf D60 bracket may be able to be adapted.

The rest is pretty self-explanatory. The brakes may not be a heap better than the drums, but they are easier to work on.
