Rear OME LTR Double Shocks

I just finished installing double shocks on the rear of my D1. I am posting some pictures and information incase someone wants to do the same.
For the rear I purchased double lower and upper shock mounts made by African Outback in South Africa. I had to modify the upper mounts as my D1 has a 4" lift and I wanted to lower the upper mounts by 2.5", so I TIG welded a piece of 10mm thick steel to the top of the upper shock mount and redrilled the mounting holes, had everything sandblasted and powder coated in the same yellow color. The rear shocks are LTR04R and N44 on each side. The lower mounts do not require any modifications only some extra mounting holes need to be drilled on the original lower shock mount.
In the rear I have 2" spring spacers and OME763 springs.
The front is straight forward. All I needed to do is drill a 50mm hole through my upper shock tower and cut the steel below it , so the angle fitting on the shock absorber and the braided hose connected to the remote canister can pass through it. In the front I used the LTR01F shock absorber. In the front I have 1" spring spacers and OME764 springs.

We don't do any rock climbing over here or the sort of offroad driving you do. On our offroad trips our vehicles are heavily loaded and driving speeds over dirt tracks or flat desert are high. Therefore, dual shock systems always provide better vehicle handling under those conditions.

Yeah I can imagine you are driving dirt roads for a hundreds of miles at a time. To get anywhere you have to do it at speed.. This is what the remote res shocks are for. Looks like a nice job....

The work looks great, nice job. I have one Question though, if you running a standard OME 44 rear shock with an LTR would you still not be limited in travel by the 44? would you not need to do 2 LTR's in the rear to achive the benefits of the LTR's? Just a thought and you may have addressed this. Looks good though.

Doesn't sound like he cares about travel, maybe it was a cost issue or maybe the N44 compliments the LTR with some firmness?

nice work. I guess your approach is that you recognize that the two different shocks would work against each other to a small degree, but that the overall benefits of running this system still outweigh going for a single shock advertised as being able to handle big hits and stutter bumps with some sort of dual valving system? Seems like a good solution.

The N44 and LTR04R have the same travel. The N44 will not limit the LTR04R. The compressed length of both shocks is 14.5" and the extended length is 23". Plus I lowered the rear upper shock mount by 2.5" to compensate for my 2" spring spacers.

Where did you get the rear mounts? for the shocks? I "may" need to do this to my truck...

These rear mounts are initially intended for Defenders. The mounting holes in the chassis are the same. To install the upper mount on the Discovery you will need to remove about 10mm off the angle which is welded to the chassis and used to support the body. There are two of those support angles, left and right of the spring perch. You will work on the one closest to the upper mount.
