Having a bad day.
On the way home from work rear tire blew and damaged the left rear quarter panel.
What is the general procedure for removing the panel ? I have a feeling it is going to be a pain in the $%^&*.
I found a donor vehicle at Pull-A-Part in Atlanta but that means I have to R&R TWO panels.
Not one of my better days. LOL

I looked at the Rave manual, section 76 page 695 has a procedure for front fenders but I didn't find anything about the rear quarter panels.
Any ideas where it is in the manual?

I could have sworn I saw it in there.

Basically it is like any other quarter panel. Simplified. Find the factory seams. Drill out the spot welds. Remove all trim, glass etc. Remove panel. Prep new quarter. I Like weld thru primer. Spot weld new panel on. Paint. Reassemble windows brackets etc.

Another way is to cut the bad out of the quarter. Cut your donor panel to match. Weld the patch in. Body filler. Prime and paint.

I'll try to find it again in the manual when I am on a land wifi....

I have a replacement rear quarter panel sitting in my garage waiting for installation. I took a good look at the RAVE directions and decided it was more than I was willing to take on given my skills, time, and tools. A local body shop quoted me $438 to do the swap. I plan to drop it off there as soon as I care enough about having a crunched rear panel.

there are no spot welds, just screws, a few pop rivets, and lots of panel bond

ive done a few, sadly all were on the same vehicle

438 is a good deal if that means the interior is as you droped it off

Hi Folks;
Thanks a bunch !!! I did take it to the Body shop and they suggested I R&R the panel assembly. As soon as I get a day off I am going to try to pull the damaged one off.
I'll keep you posted
thanks again

i have one too, sitting here, the job looks like it sucks. on a D2 at least. the glass is glued in....

It sucks on a D1 too. Window panel and light panel are spot welded together.

Panel adhesive sucks most. I used a sharpened, wd40 coated, putty knife and a rubber mallet to separate it.

I found one at pull-a-part in Atlanta. Assuming no problems encountered, how long does it take to pull it off and what tools will I need? Every time I go to Pull-a-Part people keep asking me to use my tools. I Don't want to be there a really long time. LOL

(a) tell people to fuck off, you're not a damn tool lending library, and
(b) you might want to print off the 4 pages from RAVE chapter 77, procedure "Body Side Panel (5-Door)" so you have a handy visual reference for what to do. That will also give you some good clues about what tools you'll need.
