rear recovery points

I have a SG rear bumper on a D1 that I would like to put recovery points on. I would like something like a shakle braket that fits the receiver hitch. For those of you that are familiar with the SG bumper, you know that the pin runs up and down. I would like to make it permanant so I do not have to worry about the pin and opening the rear door.

Can remove the rear skid plate/ fuel tank gaurd and access the receiver hitch area to drill a new side-to-side hole? Does anyone have a better solution? Any unforeseen problems with this idea?

No, you can still use a standard receiver. However, the pin to attach the receiver runs vertically (like you are pushing it into the ground) as opposed to transverse (pushing the pin fron one side to the other). This creates the problem that you have to remove the pin every time you want to open the rear door. If you forget, you will hit the rear door on the pin.

What I want to do is to find a way to mount the receiver permanantly to the bumper or come up with other options for recovery points.

I can't picture it. What it sounds like you're describing is beyond me why anyone would design such a thing. A dangerous design. FUBAR
Sorry I can't be of help.

you can always bolt a couple of rings to the back of the bumper, as long as you can get to the other side to put your reinforcement plate is. I've never seen a SG rear bumper off the truck, but if its made like the front you should be able to do it.

Another option would be to use a 5/8" grade 8 bolt instead of the hitch pin. You can even weld the nut on if you really want it to be permanent. Shouldn't be necessary, however-a flat washer and a nylock nut should stay on there forever. I can't imagine that the head of the bolt will be high enough to interfere with opening of the rear door.

I'm not that familiar with the SG bumper but I think I know what you are describing. A friend of mine said the reason for the vertical orientation is so it is not used as a towing receiver because it is designed for only something like 2K pounds. So, have you considered just mounting jate rings to the frame? They are plenty strong and simple to install.

Only 2,000lbs? Then I definately wouldn't use it as a recovery point!
