I am going to start making a rear cargo setup and was wondering if anyone here has a way to make the rear seats a quick and easy removal/re-fitiing? I was thinking of clamps of some sort that could use wing nuts. Anyone have any ideas for me?

Thanks,
Jeremy

Its only 8 little screws as it is. I don't see how much easier it could get.

Like suburban/expedition easy. You unhook the seats and pull them out!!! Eight screws is easy, but not that easy and would be a pain if you want to pull them out when you go 4 wheeling and put them back in after. I'm looking for ideas...

Right behind front seats where people sit. You got something?

Yes, actually they are quite easy to remove.

Oh, geez... I have such a hard time remembering the names of tools! :(

You know that tool that has the rachet thingy on it?? You use one of those with an attachment that I think is called a torx. Size 8... maybe???

The first time I needed to remove my rear seats was on short notice, and I was able to find the attachment to fit on my Snap On Rachet Thingy at Lowes.

If someone here does not give you the size right away, I can go pull out my tools in my truck and take a pic for you.

Just make sure you put the screws back in after you remove the seats... especially if you are going to travel through deep water. I learned that the hard way. :(

The most difficult part of removing them is the weight of the seats and the bulky size. Other than that, removing them is easy.

'Hope that helps. :)

I do this already. Use a power driven drill. Maybe takes 2 minutes tops.

You could weld studs in and use wing nuts. But you still have the same issue. Now you're just unscrewing wing nuts.

How much stuff do you take "when 4 wheeling" that requires you to remove the seats? If you're loading all that crap up, removing 8 screws is nothing.

I just took mine out a couple of weeks ago. Obviously, the design is such that those bolts holding down the bar on the front of the seat bracket is load bearing (the seatbelts restrain you in an accident, not those bolts). As such you could probably just use a locking wingnut type configuration to hold them down. Similar to how the hi jack mounts are for roof racks.

I had to cut one screw off because it was rusted in. I haven't yet drilled it out, but you may find similar issues if they've never been taken out. Also, I had to dremmel out one of the seatbelt bolts. Even with the proper Torx (T55 or T50 if I recall), it still was a pain. (Marty, Will, etc. I'll be needing that seatbelt bracket sometime).

I'm contemplating leaving the seats out. I'm not sure yet. I guess the seats aren't too bad, it's really the seat belts that stick up and get in the way.

EDIT:
Glad you brought this up. I actually hadn't thought about converting them to a tool-less quick removal system. But since I've had them out, I really like the setup. Another cool thing is that if you figure out a good mount system, it could double as a securing point for strapping down cargo when the seats are out.

Thanks for constructive posting!!! I just got done pulling my seats to do some measurments and the holes go all the way through so I will just put the bolts through from the bottom and hopefully there won't be clearence issues with wing nuts on the top side.

My plan is to have a permenant back part and a detachable front part so that I can double my floor space/cargo room with the seats out. Thinking of useing a detachable hinge for the front/back mounting and the seat bolts to secure it to the floor.
