Rear View Mirror Project

My XD's original mirror had a broken swivel joint but was otherwise perfect, fortunately I kept it. I bought a D2 mirror from Will with a digital compass. The mirror works great but bugs me that it's not 'right' for a D1. My '98 parts D1 has the rear view mirror with map lights that work great but the glass is dimmed due to the fluid leaking.

So, need some advice on replacing the '98 mirror with the XD mirror so I have a fully functioning D1 mirror with map lights. Any advice on opening up the plastic housing? It looks glued or sealed so I'm hoping someone has some tricks or advice as I go to perform surgery.

Additionally, I have a dumb idea to take the compass out of the D2 mirror and put it into a D1 clock (placed where the coin tray is currently). Anyone ever done something like this? Is it doable? I know it's not really practical, but I kinda like the digital compass and would like it in the dash. I'm also going to add some USB chargers where the ashtray is, so it's kind of a whole project anyway...

@pdXDisco97 digital compasses need to be away from anything magnetic. The clock spot is too near other electronics, and especially the blower motor. You'd probably be better off with one of those dash-mount floating compasses.

Actually, you'd probably be best off adding map lights to the bottom of your D2 mirror.

Maybe a volt meter where the 'clock' would be...?
