Rearview Mirror leaking

Mirror

 Thanks Jaime for the info. I have been trying to figure out how to get the old mirror off for a while now. I had a guy tell me that I had to push it UP and that sure
don't work. I think the map lights will work on mine because I did see a connector laying back up in there that wasn't being used. I think maybe the one with the map lights came on the SE or SE-7 model Disco mine is just a plain old SD. And yeah, they are a pretty cool company to replace these mirrors - mine's 8 years old and just started leaking
this summer.
Cheers,
Jim

I just had to fix a mirror today, so I can tell you EXACTLY how it locks onto the glass:
Inside the big black plastic cover is the aluminum casting that covers the button glued to the glass. The button is T-shaped with a cavity facing the shifter. Inside the casting, there's a C-shaped spring clip with a Torx screw holding to the back of the casting. The C slides up onto the top of the T, and the screw head pops into the cavity, preventing the mirror from sliding back down & falling off. So a SLIGHT pull while trying to slide the mirror down will help get the screw head out of the cavity.

I wish I had had my camera with me...

Whoa you dudes are great ! :) I just received my replacement mirror from Magna Donnelly today and now I've got illustrated instructions for removal of the old one too !
And the new one has map lights ! Now all I need to do is put some black tape over those pesky anit-lock and check engine lights and attach coat hangers to the rear door and tailgate latches so I can get them open it'll all be good.
Thanks

I also received my new mirror with the map lights. It was a one week turn around from the time I called then to when the mirror arrived at my door step. I was told that the standard mirror is back ordered and they do not know when the shippment from Ireland will be coming in. That is why they are sending out mirrors with the map lights

Does anyone know if the wirror mount is the cam style, or wedge style mount? Mine has been leaking for two years. I've sent several e-mails and left a couple of phone messages in the past all with no response from the company, I guess I'll try again. Did anyone see if they could upgrade to a comp/temp display mirror by paying the differene in price from the base mirror? Thanx..

mirror wiring

I also called donelly about a mirror issue and they will replace it. My question is if the current mirror does not have map lights will the connection work on the mirror with map lights. My vehicle is a 96 D1. Is it a simple plug in or do I have to do modifications. They are willing to give me the one with the lights and I am definetly liking the idea of extra lights up front . Thanks , Nick...

I also have a 96 disco and just received my new mirror with the map lights. It takes about 10 minutes to install and is a simple plug connection. no mods were required. I like it.

What number are you guys calling, and who are you talking to? I?ve left three messages at the number in the beginning of the post, stepping through the options for electrocromatic mirror support and warrantee claim. I also sent an e-mail, all with no Response!

Donnelly is going to replace my mirror as well on my 97se7. I see from everyone's posts that the map lighted mirror is working fine for others that previous did not have mirror originally with this feature, and I was confident with this information until...Donnelly questioned me about my connection and stated that if I requested the one with the map lights that it may not work because the connection is different. Are they blowing smoke up my rear end or is it really safe for me to claim I have the map lighted mirror (BTW, my mirror is not a map light, but it sure would be nice)? I know mine has 3 wires cause I just took it off to double check.

Thanks much
Jen

My home is where my Disco is
Well my mirror has developed a very ugly centre splodge but still does not leak. The splodge began 5 months ago after parking the truck in freezing temperatures outside and did not recover.

I've seen some posts (P38A Range Rover) that the splodge can be reverted back to normal by heating the mirror with a hairdryer. Has anybody performed this operation?

Besides? The last post regarding free-of-charge mirror replacements from donnelly date from 2007. Are they still supporting mirror replacements?

Cheers from Spain and thanks for your input

Mine dripped out that gross stuff years ago. I still have the same mirror, looked stupid with different shades for a while, but eventually it evened out. Don't even notice it now.

Be sure to clean that stuff off of whatever it drips on though, it is corrosive.

This is the first I have heard of this freebie, but I will be giving them a call for that replacement.

Thanks

Edit: Note to self "Read the last post before you type you stupid dummy."

They are not offering the free mirrors anymore so you are on your own. :(

I will try to contact them and, should the answer be a no-no, then I will be buying the manual traditional one, which retails for about 20 pounds sterling, and works.

Cheers and thanks for the update
