Rebuilding Distributor?

Hi everyone, I'm about to rebuild my distributor (The rotor arm is frozen to the shaft causing my timing to be advanced. I have a few questions before I start.

How do I set the static ignition timing?
What is the location of the torsional vibration damper?
How do I disengage the AC compressor? (is it as simple as just disconnecting the plug to the compressor)
What is the reluctor? It is only mentioned in the shop manual but no diagrams.
