REI is to outdoor clothing as best buy is to home audio. No one there has any clue on their gear (in general).
From 2000-2005 or so, they carried decent stuff and I shopped there. Gradually went down. I doubt that I spent $100 there this year.
Most of the REI Brand stuff that I have owned is low-average quality. They have replaced so many brands with REI, that help me decide easier and online is now where i buy.
