Remote Starter/Keyless Entry Question

Hello all,

I have a 96 SD that I bought a few months back. When I bought the truck I received a key but no remote.

Well, winter is fast approaching in Chicago and I am thinking about a remote start unit for the truck. Many of those also include keyless entry.

So can I just buy one of those units and use the aftermarket keyless entry or is the lack of the original remote gonna screw up my install somehow?

Is the factory alarm system a problem here?

I have not heard good things, do a search and you will see many commenting on the difficulty they have experienced.

I have installed two remote starts on later model GM vehicles with the addition of a passlock bypass module to circumvent the security system. LR's security system is quite a bit different and I don't know of any method to "get around" the security system. FWIW, I haven't even considered trying one on my D2 because of the headaches others have suffered. The remote start shouldn't be that big of an issue, but the keyless entry is the bugger. Wish I could be of more assistance.

No, that is good help. Remote start is much more important to me than keyless entry.
