I was thinking of this today also. I had the doggie with me and wanted to lock the Disco and leave it running with the ac on......???

[uh.....only for like 5 minutes while I went in to pay for gas]

Looks like an excellent solution, the 90s are security challenged and this would give me some peace of mind. A shop down from my house is advertising 399 installed ill have to see what brand they offer up. Oh you want a Clifford that's going to cost 1200

Ill have to keep this in mind.. Thank you

I have a Crown Vic Police Cruiser and the dash has a switch that allows you to remove the key from the ignition and leave the car running. You can lock the doors and leave the car. No one can steal it cause the gear shift can't be taken outta park. It's a pretty cool feature. Sounds like that's what you need. I'm sure it's a common mod that you can add.

Don't Do It!

They're not safe (esp w/ a manual tranny), not good for the engine, not good for gas mileage, and really don't warm up the car. Your vehicle will come to temp (making the heater put out hot air) faster just by driving it. Just warm it up long enough for the rpms to kick down and go.

I learned this in my old soft top Jeep. With temps in the single digits, it would take 20+ min to have the heater "working." Just driving it, 5-10min.

Save your cash...

Another option is a fuel fired pre-heater. I know I've seen one that runs for up to an hour pre-heating the coolant, block, and will run the fans to pre-heat the interior. I'll try to dig up the details for the one that'll run on petrol as well. I know the Blueheat products are Diesel and fairly expensive but are a good option that doesn't use much fuel at all.

I was looking into them mostly because I do winter mountaineering and hope to be able to run on B80-100 in the winter so need a heater capable of warming the tank in advance using an alternate winter diesel fuel supply.
