Learned a new trick from Corey aka OFFROVER for removing hubs from DII CV's/axles. If you are like me and don't have a press in your garage but do have an impact hammer it can be done easily. After removing the stake nut take your impact hammer/air hammer and put a bit in it with a rounded point. Place that in the center of the axle/cv shaft and give it the gas. It should move inward a few mm's. At this point remove the assembly and take it to the vice. Once secured hit it again with the impact hammer and watch the axle drop right out. SWEET TRICK! Hope this helps.

Cheers,

Mike

edit: change cm's to mm's whoops.

I did this with a press and couldnt imagine having to do this on trail....if i were gonna run oe axle shafts I'd skip the locktite on the axel shaft splines...

If you have a CO2 tank and an impact hammer it can be done. Not as easy as a DI but can be done on the trail if absolutely necessary. F'in semi floaters!!

Mike, are talking about while this is on the truck, bolted to the axle tube?

Yep. Just get the brakes removed, rotor, sensor, and can even loosen the four bolts that hold it all in there. Give it a few whacks with the impact hammer (just enough to see it break loose). Then remove the whole assembly, put it on a vise or whatever you have to hold it, hit it again with the impact hammer and out pops the axle shaft. It didn't take much at all even with the red locktite. Does that make better sense?

Cheers,

Mike

it can be done with a friend holding the hub while you whack it with a sledge hammer and punch.

Yep one of my rears was on so tight we blew up two hydraulic jacks trying to pop it loose. Finally took it to a machine shop where they used their HUGE ASS press. As it was popping it loose it shook the damn walls of the shop!

Another really good tool to have is a 8' puller. I bought one off of harbor freight.com for only $11.

Agreed. 3 Tooth.
