1996 Disco. Anyone ever removed the body side molding? What's under there? I'm interested in removing as it's kinda dinged up and I think the rig will look cleaner without it.

if it's like the DII 03's it's just a groove. if you take a look at the S models you'll see what i'm talking about.

Hey Dion --

That molding was only put on select models in '96, if I remember correctly. If you look at pictures of other D1s that don't have the molding, you can see what's under there: it's just grooved/beveling on the body panels.

On the right front, where the sill is bent, you can see where I clipped a piece off to prevent it from catching on the quarterpanel when you open the door. It's dirty underneath, because there's double-sided tape that holds all the molding in place.

I'm pretty sure you can just strip it all off, and use a heavy duty cleaning agent to take off the adhesive residue, and any dirt/grime that's likely trapped under there.

Again, I'm not positive --- but I'd be very surprised if the body panel design was specific to those plastic pieces.

My dealership in Boulder was a little surprised to see that, they thought it was aftermarket at first. To date I haven't seen a single D1 with the same style plastic.

I'm sure the one in down in Phoenix would be able to tell you what's all underneath there.

When I put on the 35s a couple of years ago, I removed the rubber molding aft of the rear wheel wells (wasn't much of it left after cutting). What I found underneath?

Holes.
