hey guys i have been working on the ball joints for a while now... had some issues bending my original c-clamp and bought another one. thanks HarborFreight.

i finished the driver side. what a PITA

I did however run into some slight challenges as I had to grind two of the adapter to sit "flush" with the surface of the axle casing for pressing the new ones without pinching the new boots or coming

And for anyone who has done this before, how tight/free should the steering knuckle move once finished? before the repair, the knuckle moved very freely and without problems. Now there is a good amount of resistance and if torque the upper and lower ball joint bolts to 100ft and 110ft respectively as shown in RAVE....I can barely move the knuckle. So until someone tells me otherwise, I have backed off the nuts slightly to allow better movement.

ALSO... the tension collet says to only tighten to 5ftlbs but if I do that I will only have gone in a few threads. I went ahead and tightened it all the way to sit a few mm off the knuckle since movement of the knuckle is almost impossible if everything is torqued to spec.

PLEASE ADVISE...

pics and write-up coming soon...maybe.

Ball joints on an 03 with 67k?? What's up with that?

I have over 180k on my 01 and ball joints are tight and issue free...

Sorry just wondering -

All the boots were ripped back when I bought the rig with 56k.... And come to find out, the lower joints were shot and extremely loose. I have done the pas side with no problems... Awful job to do though.
