I bought a rebuilt transmission for my 2004 Discovery II. The front driveline exploded and cracked the old transmission casing. I am wanting to do the swap myself. While far from an expert, I am unafraid and am pretty good if I have a step by step instructions. Do any of you know of a good online manual that gives step by step instructions. I find a lot of manuals for the 1999-2002 versions, but not sure about which manual I should buy or subscribe for the 2004 4.6L. Suggestions?

HP22 (99-02) and the HP24 (03-04) = only difference is the length of about 10cm if I'm not mistaken. Removal & Installation should be the same.

There are some links posted in other threads here to downloadable shop manuals.
There are several different documents that cover different types of info. RAVE is a service manual that covers all kinds of stuff I would call general repairs. It has schematics, and light repair. It's downloadable for free.
What you want is the Shop Manual. It's going to cover drivetrain component overhaul, engine overhaul, major removal reinstall stuff. It also is downloadable for free. I think it's on a site called Roverresource

I usually take the tran and t case together and split them on the floor or a bench. But if I was taking it out on my back I would probably rethink that. Maybe pull the t case off and make the trans a little more manageable.

what is HP24? Is it a reference to a manual?
Maybe you found out already, but the ZFHP24 is the tranny for the 4.6 L V-8. It's has a higher HP and torque rating than the ZFHP22.
ZF Friedrichshafen AG has been in business since 1915 and made tranny's for the Panzerkampfwagen VI Ausfuhrung E, among other vehicles.
Thank you.
