Rerouting intake for water crossings.

Actually, what Im trying to do is hack off the horn on the intake box on my 98 D1and somehow attach tubing and route it toward the firewall. This is an attempt to avoid some water rushing into the box without cutting the fender for a snorkle. Has anyone done anything similar? It seems that evertime I hit a water hole that is up to the doors, water gets into the intake box either from the water splashing around or the fan spraying towards the air box. Im thinking if I can mount some 3-4" tubing and reroute it so as to alleviate this problem. Not looking to go into anything extreme, just hate to have water sucked up to the MAF and cut the engine out and ruin a filter. Just like to get the input of the Dweb.

I know a few Jeepers that do something similar, but sorry I can't make any suggestions for routing it inside for a Disco.

Just FYI, you won't have to hack off the horn, just hold the box tight and give the horn a quick little karate chop and it will pop right off...and 3" hose fits onto the remaiing nub perfectly.

Good luck!

Snorkel

I just ordered a Safari Snorkel for $319. Main reason was to make room for 2nd battery. Am I lame, or what?

A friend of mine did this.

He got rid of the horn and replaced it with a 90 deg plumbing pipe (he may have used 2 90 deg,s to get around the box) and then running it around the engine side of the breather box used (I think, ) exaust flexi pipe to run it to the fire wall just under the hood.

I am thinking of doing a similar thing but then going into the space behind the quarter pannel to get some cooler air (around where the mantec comes out of the fender)

Thanks for the reply friends. I know of a guy that did this sort of thing with his RRC. But, the Rangie had a place in the fender that the air hose was routed into away from any water and was a good source of cooler air. He was able to swap it in using the stock clips on its air box when he was going off road. I'll give it a try and post results if I can figure a decent way off doing it. In the end, I may just buy a snorkle. Hell, Ive cut the fenders for bigger tires and cut the grill for a winch. Might as well cut the front fender for a snorkle. Thanks again.
