Has anyone resealed their steering box. I see they sell a seal kit. Is it super difficult. a reman box is pretty spendy compared to the seal kit. I'm fairly well equiped with tools, and have about 8 years experience as a factory mech for BMW, Porsche prior to my current occupantion. If a reseal is a waste of my time (will still leak) I'll just get a new box. I would like to save the money and use it for a front air locker or safari rack. Any input would be great

Andrew, I pulled my box at 104k miles as it leaked like a dog. I disassembled it and found chewed up lower needle bearing and output shaft. New seal wasn't going to help me. I stupidly got a used box for $350 that lasted another 35k. I just put in a Meridian rebuild which is $300 after core and reccomend that.

I have a seal kit I'll sell you for 3/4 price that I couldn't use. The input and output ext seals can be replaced with the box in place. I don't think that will fix you though.

BTW, everyone will tell you check the hose clamps first as they are not very well made.

Thanks for the advice. It does look like it's going to be a hose issue instead of the box. I think I'll just buy the hose kit through atlantic british and not have to worry about any of them for a while.

I agree with Joe,
I'd recommend a Meridian rebuilt unit. I'm very satisfied with the unit I replaced in my 87 RR. When mine goes in my 97 D1, I'll be replacing it with a Meridian. Their price was fair and their customer service and product was great.
