probably more useful for the dozen gems p38s that are left on the road, but it can't hurt to have the option

Hello All,
After downloading the Mac version of this file how does one get that data into the bluetooth dongle?

You pair the bluetooth module to the computer and run the program. Since the Bluetooth module is powered by the vehicle it'll have to be in the car with the power on

Hello robertf,
Thank you for the quick response!
I will get one of the recommended modules and give it a go. I am a Mac & Android user. I recently sold my HawkEye scantool so your project comes at a very good time.

Thank you!

This is what I did:
Downloaded robertf's .zip file and extracted it to a folder on my desktop. (WIN XP)
Opened up a Command Prompt box. C:\Documents and Settings\xxxxx\Desktop\Gems
Plugged in the https://www.scantool.net/obdlink-sx/ to the OBD2 port, then plugged it into laptop. It was using COM 4 on my laptop.
Then, with key on engine off,
Microsoft Windows XP [Version 5.1.2600]
(C) Copyright 1985-2001 Microsoft Corp.

C:\Documents and Settings\xxxxx>cd desktop\gems

C:\Documents and Settings\xxxxx\Desktop\GEMS>gems com4 reset

Connecting to:com4
...........
AUTHORIZING
AIR ADAPTIVE VALUE: 49919
FUEL ADAPTIVE VALUE: 22
TPS CLOSED VALUE: .560V
RESETTING ADAPTIVE VALUES
DISCONNECTING

C:\Documents and Settings\xxxxx\Desktop\GEMS>

HUZZAH! Now for a 60 mile drive.

Did you confirm that using this tool and the code provided by Robert actually reset your Adaptive Values?

Second - if so, do you have any of the "optional premium software" with your reader? I need a new reader (specifically to reset my adaptive values) and $29.95 plus the code provided here is a good deal.

I don't know if I need any of that advanced software though? Scanmaster, ScanXL Professional, etc.

Please advise, thanks.

Any other reasonable scanner for a 1996 Disco 1 (GEMS)? I'm all ears. Prefer not paying out $500.

I don't understand a damned thing in this thread other than: Plug it in, press this button, adaptive values will reset. So try to make it simple for me, thanks.

AbnMike,
Yes, the OBDLink SX with robertf's program worked. I didn't use any thing extra software/add-on wise. The SX came with a quick-start guide that included a code to download and run OBDWiz for Windows. Bought the OBDLink SX off Amazon for about $30. That is all I spent.

Key on, ignition off.
After downloading, installing, and starting OBDWiz on my laptop (old Dell XP) I plugged the SX into the OBD connector on my truck.
Then plugged the SX into USB port on laptop and had OBDWiz connect to the SX.
After Wiz recognized the connection to the truck, I hit the disconnect button in Wiz. If I didn't, I got a port in use error message in command prompt.
Loaded up the GEMS program in command prompt. Ran >gems com# reset.

I will mention that I had to do it again after about 150 miles, then again after an additional 300, then again after an additional 1,500-1,700 miles. I probably have some other gremlin running around but after doing it a couple times, it is easy. Thinking about getting the bluetooth connector so I can do it from my phone instead of running laptop out. Or I might not. :)

the advanced software they offer is for doing test book equivalent type stuff for GM,ford, etc. Since it's backward compatible with the elm chipset (the same one all the cheap chinese bluetooth scan tools use) you can use it with torque and whatever other apps are out there.

I recommend the Bluetooth version, lugging a laptop in to a car these days feels antiquated. Someday I'll have the android version done

The air adaptive value display has a bug and is not converting to decimal properly, but It is resetting
