I decided to buy fluoresent camping lantern for my trip last weekend because I was tired of packing my propane lantern like it was a piece of cherished family crystal. So I zipped down to my local Sports Chalet to see what was available. I ended up getting the Coleman 8D Pack-Away lantern. It has a 15W fluoresent spiral U-tube bulb (output equivalent to a 60W incandescent bulb). It is pretty bright even on the low setting, but the best part is that it collapses and takes up about the same amount of space as a roll of TP. When collapsed, the bulb and plexi shield are inside the hard plastic casing, fully protected from knocks and scratches. It ran me $20.00 (plus batteries, of course), but now I can just toss it in the back and not worry about shattered glass or broken mantles. Link is provided for anyone interested.

I have one of those older coleman battery lamps and it SUCKS!!!.. Takes four D cells and gives off less light them my keychain mag light... I'm sure that one is better then the hunk of crap that I wasted 20 bucks on but, with 8 batteries that's got to have some weight to it..

I just use my little LED head lamp for in the tent and around the camp and then for camp site light I use my Little Lantern.
