Was he the one who 'discovered' the Buick 215cid V-8? Someone from Rover's design department was touring a Mercury Marine boat building plant in MA circa 1966 when they literally stumbled across GM's aluminium block V-8. It was a much better choice than the Rover P-5 engine that was being considered for the "100 inch station wagon" project. And the rest, shall we say, is history.
