What would you guys recommend for a dI w/16" rims that will be driven mostly onroad? I want a tire that is good all year round, can handle gravel/some dirt but can run a 500 mile trip in silence. Stock suspension and no fender cutting. Offroad will be minimal for now, maybe in the future I will get an offroad set of tires/rims so I am not willing to sacrifice tire noise for offroad prowess.

I was thinking about a set of the kumho Venture HTs. The reviews on other vehicles look pretty good but each vehicle is different, and of course whats true for a suburban isn't the same as for a disco!

235/70-16 SL
Outlined White Letters SR Speed Rated Price Each: $65

The price is definitely right.

(I ended up finding a 97 d1 that also fit the requirements but for a few k less. Just need to find a notary public and I will have it later today!)

I run Bridgstone A/T Revo's...and I love them. Great normal driving. Quiet, good in snow, water, gravel (although it will pick up one or two once in a while) I have also gone offroading with these and they did very well for a road tire. I have around 30 to 35k on these and still have a lot of wear left.

Hi,

I'm running Yokohama Geolander AT's and I couldn't be happier. :D

I do much of my driving on-road and go off-road every other weekend and find they do a great job.

I also found out a friend has been running set his on his 4WD Ford F-250 for more than 80k miles and they are still looking great and show no signs of needing replacement.

The best part is they are usually the least expensive big-brand tire at about US$100 each.

I run the exact same tires you were looking at (the Kumhos) on my 98 d1

not problems in light mud, dirt, gravel, snow, etc. They suck in deep mud and on ice, but I had trouble getting them to slide in snow, and my ABS hasn't sowrked since I bought the truck.... I've had my truck for over 10k miles (tires were new when I bought it) and they've shown little to no wear.

I recommend the BFG ATs. They are a great on-road tire with good handling and minimal noise. They are also very good off-road, just not so good for thick mud and rock crawling.

I have the Bridgestone A/T Revo's like Joey. I agree with everything he wrote about the tire, except that I have only had mine for about 10K miles...

Are the REVOs the radial long trails? I dont see anything on tirerack with revo in the name. Costco has them for 105 each online, if they are in stock locally I could probably knock that down to 100 bucks without shipping costs, mounted and out the door.

The K/Os look nice, but are 145 each and people mention there are noise issues. Noise issues are definitely not good for me if I want my girlfriend to continue helping me out with the long drives to the racetrack!

Thanks guys!

Revo

Hey, can you guys elaborate a little more on these Bridgestones? I'm considering these as well as a replacement next year. I can vouch for these as a great street/highway tire as I've had them on my RX300 (only drove on them for about 2K miles before selling that SUV). I'm wondering about how tough are they off-road? How's the sidewall? The reviews on tirerack.com come aren't all that good

Do you have pictures of what these look like on your truck? I'm considering the 265/75/16.

p.s. just looked at Bridstone's site, actually never mind my comment about the Revo experience: I've had Dueler H/L on my Lex, not the Revos, so I can't talk about their highway performance :) Anyway, still curious about these...

Ahh thanks I knew I shoulda had some coffee this morning! Ok the BRIDGESTONE :) revo's run 124.00 installed at costco, but must be ordered in store for some reason. Their online site does not like the part number (742607) and now I need to go figure out where my stupid membership card is. They state 5-7 business days for transit. That should work since I need them next week, though friday would be great.

152 for the same tires without install at sears! Must be ordered 7-10 day wait.

Has anyone compared these to the venture HT's? I am guessing the ATs are going to really be the way to go due to the tread design/depth but figured I would ask anyways. The reviews really praise the AT's for well.. everything. Traction to noise they look like winners.

Cost for the venture HTs are 65 each plus 12.50 shipping and ~30 to mount and some 3 dollar fee for trashing the old tires. That would put it at about 20 bucks cheaper than the bridgestones.

Understood. With this being really for road, I'll stick with the stock tire size. Probably go up in the future as I get more familiar with offroading etc.

Pirelli Scorpion AT. Good round tire, excellent on-road ride and good in sand/dirt Had in a little mud and they were marginal as expected, don't yet know about snow but will soon.

Drove them about 6,000miles this month, quiet and balanced well.
