1) what are the 3 levels of trails, regarding difficulty.
2) who is your target audience using the 'dirty dancing' hotel as a marketing tool? It's definitely not us here in dweb world.
Hope you have a good turn out....ROAV needs it.

1) "Easy", "The other one", and "Trash Pickup"
2) I would totally go to an event where back to the future was filmed. Wasn't Footloose filmed at the Wilds?

Thanks for the interest. There is a running thread on the ROAV Forum with a list of FAQ's that will be updated as planning progresses.
http://www.roav.org/ForumsPro/viewtopic/t=772.html

The ROAV Summer Rally plans to be a simple no-frills weekend event. The Hotel is offered up for the non-campers but most folks do pitch tents up in the large field (abandoned golf course).

There will be three main trails utilized for this event.

* Beginner / Stock Trucks ? The Mountain area has miles of forest service roads to explore. Some of these roads have deep mud holes in them that easily avoided and charged right through depending on your spirit. A map of those trails is included on the ROAV FAQ page.

* Intermediate / Modified Trucks ? The Moore Farm is located just a mile or so away from the campground and offers tighter trails with difficult terrain. In years past, these trails became ridiculously slippery after some afternoon rain adding to the challenge. We are looking at ways to expand this trail system this summer and a map of the existing trail is on the ROAV FAQ page.

* Intermediate to Advanced / Modified Trucks ? Potts Mountain Off Highway Vehicle (OHV) trail is about a one hour drive away and offers the widest array of challenging terrain. We are in contact with the local National Forest Rangers about this trail as it was closed earlier this spring due to a forest fire. It appears to be open now and will be OK for our use this July.

We are in a conversation with the Rangers about some sort of trash pick-up or other trail conservation project as part of the event in July or our earlier scouting visits. More on this as it develops. The club leadership agreed that a trail conservation project would be an important goal for this year.

Typically the ROAV summer event has been a light trail event with more of a gathering feel than hard core off road wheeling. It has never been meant for you hard core off road types.

I've driven past that hotel a few years back while scoping out a campground. There is one in the woods, just a few minutes down a forest road. It does have a few large areas you can reserve as well as bathrooms.

this is the type of exclusion diminishing the excitement towards events. fwiw, i am no longer going to post negative comments regarding any event organized by anyone. it takes a lot of effort and i respect anyone taking that on.
the rover community seems to have two very different crowds, and no matter how much we argue the two crowds will never see eye to eye.
us 'hard core' types usually come across as obnoxious and crass, but we never exclude anyone or point out that this 'isn't intended for you'. all trips should be intended for everyone, it would be a bit funner to argue in person over a beer than on the internet; arguing over a beer means we are all at the same place enjoying each other's company, where as arguing or bantering on the internet does nothing more than create further divisiveness, which we don't really need on the east coast anymore.

the first question i asked is legitimate, regarding trail description.
the second question i asked was rude, the op is trying to include everyone and i made a pissy comment. i will do better to keep my negative comments to myself.

Hey seventy-five, a funny side note... I first met JJ, (and your truck) on the ROAV Potts Mountain trail ride back in May 2003. I think it was just about stock back then. Some heavy rains made it a 15 hour trail ride...

Jeff,
I remember when I went up to Harrisburg landrover with Jason whenhe bought it. I went to mar with him that same year, 18" road slicks were swapped out at mar. Garrett was buying 40's, everyone had a blast. Need to get back to that kind of event.

brett,
after spending 11 hours at rausch yesterday and NOT wheeling, i remembered why i enjoy wheeling. its a group of different people getting together to have a good time. helping a guy get his $100k+ buggy up a line and he gives you a thumbs up! even that guy is looking for someone to give him help, thats what wheeling is, its not about arguing over the validity of what you have on our truck, the trails you run, the way you conduct your club or organization, its about having fun. a lot of us have gotten wrapped up in very stupid shit.

daniel is a good friend, i hope everyone knows he is nothing less than a stand up guy. and if anyone wants to punch him in the face in person there will be a handful of people that wouldn't let that happen.

I am about an hour from Potts and Mtn Lake. I will be attending this event and just for info the Potts Mountain OHV trail was re opened 2 weeks ago fr the holiday weekend.

The Hotel (regardless of past movie fame) is acutally a very nice place, excellent food, and they have big Oktoberfest celebrations every weekend during October that are a lot of fun.

The Moore farm can be as challenging as you want it to be! I guess it's all in what you make it. ROAV does need a good wheeling event, I socialize with ROAV events and Wheel when I go to Uwharrie.

Everyone - There are only two weeks left to pre-register for the ROAV Summer Rally.
