All of the skids on the truck came from the factory when the 1st owner bought it. If it's not broke, dont fix it. Why would i get rid of more protection for less protection?

.

because you are giving up ground clearence and not really protecting anything.

add into that the fact that those act like a land anchor in the mud and snow and get so packed full of stuff that it can lock the steering, most people that really use there trucks wouldent think of having one one their truck.

so to be blunt...thats why you should get rid of it...its worthless.

They're made by Southdown and all have Land Rover logo's on them. In my case, it's not cost efficient to get rid of the skids when i have them already and I am a college student on a tight budget. The skid has NEVER kept me from going where i want so it doesn't seem to be a problem now does it. Maybe I will take it off and come beat the shit out of all you haters with it. That seems like a perfect use for it.

The only reason I say they're from the factory is because they have the LR logo's on them and the ones I have are the only one's Ive ever seen with the logos. Leading me to believe they were a factory option or dealership option type deal.

As for the headlight situation, I have HIDs so those bars blocking them isn't a problem at all and NC isn't extra lame like VA and make that illegal. I'm guessing you have to have mud flaps too!? lol

Good work with the truck so far. I like the tube bumper from Roxstar, it's about one of the only tube fronts I would actually stop and take a look at. My question would be: With a 3" lift and 285's, you've got great clearance, but the skid does/will fill up with crud sooner or later. A better option would be to just get a diff guard and give yourself the 1.5" extra of clearance versus not knowing what the heck is crammed up there from trail debris and weather. If you put that much work into it to lift it, the guys are just trying to tell you from experience. The ones pointing it out have been in the game longer than I assume you have been, so they're offering advice.

How the hell do I know? I had one on my '03. Had a stump come along and bend the shit out of it and found 1" of mud caked up in it from God knows how long. Take that for what it's worth.

Take the advice and jabs the guys give and either use it or don't. Just don't shit where you live.

So, let me get this right.

You're a "poor student".
I love it when people call them selves "poor College students". I think it's great. Then when they post pictures of their ghettoed out truck looking like shit, they can fall back on the "poor student" card.

First, if your poor student budget was really an issue, you would not be driving a Land Rover in the first place. You would have something much more reliable and easier on gas.

Second, you would not be modifying your Land Rover because you're so poor.

But that's not the case here, is it? You are driving a gas guzzling Land Rover and you are pimping it out with goodies. So, I think we can all agree that you're not as "poor" as you want other to believe. No, you're not "poor" at all. You're a cheapfuck. Cheapfuck is not the same as being poor.

Now let's talk about that ridicules skid plate. That plate is shit. It was shit 10-years ago and it's shit today. Much like that ridicules rear bumper step, that actually did come from the factory, this is one of the first things that should have been removed and sold on ebay. Much like you, Reed Perry, other people buy ridicules junk. By selling that turd on ebay, you would not be as "poor" as you want other to think you are and that money could have been applied to your cheapfuck front bumper.

The skid has NEVER kept me from going where i want so it doesn't seem to be a problem now does it.

I find this very much comical. It's also very telling. That turd of a skid plate has never fucked you because of either:
1) You do not go wheeling
2) You never been on a trail
3) You're a poser with a lifted truck and skids who cruises around town saying "look at me and my kick-ass skids" because you're too poor to actually drive to the trail and use your lifted truck with skids.

That skid is a horrible design. It sucks in snow, it sucks in mud, it sucks on the rocks, it sucks to even look at. Bottom line, it's worthless. The reason it has not "been a problem" is because you do not go anywhere.

Maybe I will take it off and come beat the shit out of all you haters with it. That seems like a perfect use for it.

Yawn.

The only reason I say they're from the factory is because they have the LR logo's on them and the ones I have are the only one's Ive ever seen with the logos. Leading me to believe they were a factory option or dealership option type deal.

Typical.

I have some Sweet UK cases with Land Rover stickers on them. Pretty sure they're genuine because of the stickers. The stickers are even green!

See how ridicules that sounds?

You're a dipshit, Reed Perry. You probably purchased the truck because of those rad skids and even convinced yourself that they would be useful. You then went on and convinced yourself these skids were a factory option. Now you're pissed off because others are pointing out how incredibly stupid you are for thinking this. Rookie.

As for the headlight situation, I have HIDs so those bars blocking them isn't a problem at all and NC isn't extra lame like VA and make that illegal. I'm guessing you have to have mud flaps too!? lol

Oh, that's even sweeter - the beloved HID conversion. Steve Young would be so proud of you.

...what a fucking hack.

As for the VA inspection, it is what it is. But I'm sure this is an issue with many States, as pointed out in other of the other threads.

And I can admit that. My truck is a turd.

Ha Ha, but your turd keeps appearing on magazine.

Last weekend I was looking for info related to the FC101 in the piles of LRM and I keep seeing your turd in a few issues.

where i'm at right now, duh...
Regardless of all the other crap in this thread, that axle guard is a waist.

Get a good diff cover and get rid of that piece of junk. Us west coast guys see a lot more rocks and the axle housings hold up fine.

That axle guard is a great way to collect wet muck and rot out your axle. Get a diff guard, that's what needs protecting, not the axle housing.

Yep, maybe he could sell it and buy some pants to wear around his waste.
