Roof Rack For Se3

Just got busy browsing looking for a roof rack that will fit my 2005 se3. I don't need extenders or after markets but, looking at the Safety Device roof rack for the G$ freelanders, I got this bright idea of removing the roof rails installed on the se3 and install a full size G4 full size roof rack. Any suggestion before i go to the dealer and buy the G$ roof rack?

Where do you plan to bolt the rear footings of the SD rack. Get the specs first since they might end up on the rear glass top since they were designed for the 4dr model to evenly distribute the weight once the rack is loaded. Otherwise you'll end up with a long overhang in the rear that you can't load with anything. This to me isn't practical considering the $1K price tag of these racks. This is my wife's G4 hereinbelow. The rear footing are located approx. behind where the lower bar starts its upward bend. Hope this helps.

You might want to consider this setup instead. Saw this at one of the Freelander forums.

If you're referring to the racks used on the G4 "Edition" FLs, I don't believe those were made by SD. As you can see below, that would definitely fit the SE3.

That's me silver SE3. The Thule basket did it's job of holding the lights, shovel, and Hi-Lift, but it was a bit noisy when the top was opened.

Steel wheels and tires are still in my garage. Not too many lifted FLs around to use these I guess

I saw this rack for sale at my local dealership for $300 something.. looks nice
