Hannibal racks if you want the very best - call Eric at Atlantic British

A couple of months ago I saw a stainless steel Con-Ferr rack on a Ford Explorer that looked pretty cool - they always built a good rack but I hadn't ever seen a stainless one before.

The one that Wise Owl sells looks pretty neat too.

Apparently they are now carrying the Patriot brand of racks - sort of an English copy of a Hannibal. Somebody on the D-90 board recently bought one of their old racks for $125 off ebay recently - it looked pretty neat and is all aluminum extrusion so it doesn't weigh much.

I can't find any stainless Con-ferr racks but I know I saw one - their regular steel racks have issues with rust.

How large a rack do you want, and how soon? I have a Series Rover genuine rack I'll sell. No idea what they are worth these days. They only cover the rear part of an 88 roof, it's about as wide as the roof starting where the curvature ends, and is about 4-4 1/2 feet long.

Got any pics Tom? I am leaning towards something with no sides like the Hannibal so I can use a roof top tent.

Unfortunately no, as it's at my mom's house in VA, that's why I asked how soon you needed it. I can problably find something online so you can see what they look like however.

This definitely wouldn't work for that.

Spoke to Eric at AB - Hannibal doesn't make a rack for the 88. I even asked if a D90 rack would work but using different mounting legs.

Time to call Wise Owl and see how much...:ack:

Dang it! Is it too much to ask for somebody in the USA to carry/make a FLAT rack for an 88 for less than $1200?!?!?!?!?!?!?

I don't see why the Hannibal Rack wouldn't work on the 88" - I just measured the gutter to gutter width of my 109 and my D90 and they are the same - around 57-1/2".
There is some adjustment to the legs of the rack to adjust for width variations. You'd want the rack for the "Euro" models with out the external roll cage.

Eric said he just had a customer return the rack b/c he couldn't get it to fit his 88. Is he full of crap?

Eric is usually pretty knowledgeable - maybe his customer wasn't trying very hard. I'd see if he had a Series truck around the shop that he could test fit it to - he'd probably give you a deal on that one. I really don't see why it wouldn't fit - Ive got a Hannibal on my D90 and two series trucks (no I'm not going to unbolt it from the 90 and move it over) - I'll do some more measuring tomorrow when it's light out - maybe the roof is higher on the series truck - especially with the tropical top? I'll let you know.
