Roof Racks: capacities/options

So, I'm looking into getting a roof rack to carry a basket, but want something rather small, like the ones made by Yakima ("LoadWarrior"). I want to be able to stand on the rack (as an observation platform), but want to make sure it's short enough not to interfere with the factory rails. So, here are the questions:

1) How much can the factory bars handle as far as weight?
2) How much can aftermarket (Yakima) racks handle if they are attached to the rain gutters?
3) Who makes small raks/baskets for Disco?

Here's something along the lines of what I'm looking for, except half the lenght (this one is made for RR):

Also, has anyone installed permanent racks that are bolted on directly to the roof as opposed to the rain gutters? Thanks!!!

Pony up for the SD rack or go bargan hunting @ northwest parts. The Yak stuff is great for hauling Bikes/Skis/Kayaks, but far to lightweight for anything else. I just let my Megawarrior go w/ my landcruiser because it just didn't stand up to the task. Northewst is selling their rack for ~$700.00 +shipping & the Yak setup w/ towers & crossbars will set you back ~$ 550.00 for a 1/2 rack that you can't access from the factory ladder (if you use lowriders on the factory rails).

The yak setup is rated @ #160/ per pair of rails. But I had 6 PT 6'x6'x8' timbers on top of my FJ-62 & it only bent one bar ( i think that was because I levered one off the rack) w/ no problems other than sounding like the roof was going to cave in. The damn things crack/squeek like crazy w/ a load on them.

No problem, it's the best solution I've seen for a small/low rack. I'll probably be getting one later this year.
