Well, as much as I wanted one, I just don't have time to do anything or go anywhere and to add to it my wife and I are buying another house and moving an hour west so this is on the list of things that needs to go to fund and make the move a little easier. It's a Mombasa tent that sleeps two adults. It could use a new cover, but the one on there will do the job and if I put some time into it it might clean up pretty good. I will also include 2 sets of thule high feet and cross bars that work with a disco. The thule set up will work for one person, but you are going to need another set or a flat rack of some type if you plan on sleeping more than one adult or are on the heavier side. I will not sell the thule feet and bars seperate from the tent. At this time I will NOT ship. I should be able to mount the tent and take pictures towards the end of the week if needed. Would be glad to meet within reasonable distance of C'ville or even Richmond. Maybe meet MDers and DCers half way. $550 obo

You breaka my hearta. Just what I needa.

On a more technical (nerdy) note, I have a question about the setup. How is it that 4 Thule bars with the tall feet can't bear as much weight as a "flat rack"? 4 Thule bars = 8 feet. And the contact area of those feet against the gutter is pretty long relative to other rack feet I'm familiar with.

I haven't seen many full coverage roof racks that have more than 8 feet, except on Defender 110s. Safety Devices, Baja Racks, Rover Racks, Hannibal, if memory serves those racks all have 8 feet and people put roof top tents on them.

Is the weight of the tent an issue? Some of the thick canvas tents tip the scales at 100+ pounds, lighter ones (like the Oasis) are around 40 pounds. Not to mention that the SD-style racks mostly weigh 90+ pounds empty. It just seems strange to me that 4 Thule crossbars mounted to the gutters can't support as much weight as a full coverage roof rack.

I'd be interested to hear from folks who have experience using roof top tents with different rack setups. I've seen a few different combos on trucks but never used one myself. It seems like it has its advantages but then my wife looks at the photos and says "So if I have to pee in the middle of the night I have to climb down that ladder?" I've learned to keep my mouth shut instead of replying "Well when I was a mountain guide I used to work with women who could pee into water bottles inside their sleeping bags and never spill a drop."

There is a total of 4 feet and two cross bars which means two sets. I am implying that if you want it to hold more, then you need two more sets which would equal a total of 8 feet and four cross bars. I have changed the wording in the add to make that a little more clear. Sorry if it seemed confusing at first.

Will this tent work on a disco rack like an SD rack? Hypothetically speaking, how much would you sell them for separately?

Blatantly flying in the face of the original post here, but...

If Kris wants your tent I'll offer $120 for the Thule bars & feet shipped.

Too rich for my blood, I'm afraid... that and I'm selling my canoe to make room on the roof of the truck - if I filled it with a bigass tent, that'd kinda defeat the purpose, no? ;)

Chris,

simple math, someone offered 120.00 shipped for bars, lets say 20.00 to ship, 100.00 clean, originally 550.00 for the set, so 550.00 - 100.00 = 450.00

*LMAO* couldn't resist

Seriously, buy it, and if Trevor brings it to NOVA HH, I'll bring it to Kinsman next trip

Goose - yeah, it's a fantastic deal, and I would like to have a rooftop tent, and if I could buy it for 200 bux, sure, I'd jump on it, but I have higher priorities for the funds, such as an M4 lower...

Look, we all need food, water, and shelter. Take your pick: you can either slowly starve to death but at least stay warm in your tent or you can have a rifle to kill your food but you'll die from hypothermia within hours.

Well, this is true, but even a relatively low-end M4 is still a fantastic firearm... It doesn't need to be milled for a solid single block of aluminum and have a high-end piston system to function well and reliably... and with a free-float foregrip, it should shoot MOA out of the box, which meets my needs just fine.
