I have a Northwest Parts version of the SD rack on my 02 DII (wich I dont recomend).
Any way, I have not seen a rooftop tent up close or know exactly how its mounted. Has anyone tried to do this or can can anyone tell me how they are mounted to Hannibal rack?

The Hannibal tents are held in with 4 simple bolts through the rack (at least mine is). The bolts on mine go through the wooden bottom panel, though the top of the rack platform, and are secured with nuts underneath.

I've only seen pictures of hannibal style tents on SD's. All of the ones I've seen has custom mounts attached to the side rails to get them above the rails. The hannibal (and some others) have no front rail (and removeable rear rails) to facilitate mounting the tent to the platform to allow the tent to fold out.

thanks justin.
I found a thread by someone who has done this I'm hoping he gets back to me with details.
How do you like the tent. Worth the investment?

The tent was worth it for me. Although since I bought it, we adopted a 80lb dog! So sometimes I have to stake up a ground tent for her to sleep in as I can't get her up there.

I like it as it is very quick to install and take down. And best of all it stays pretty clean. No mud or such to deal with like ground tents.

Sorry for not getting back to you sooner with a reply to your pm, just back from Calico and Doran Loop Trail.
For mounting anything to a 1" diameter roof rack take a look at http://www.fourtreks.com/ I have their mounts for my highlift, gas can and shovel, 4 of their parallel mounts may work depending on your set up.
I used http://www.prolineracks.com/proline-cb5800-roof-rack-crossbars.html
Lots of useful info on http://www.ih8mud.com/ search roof top tents.

Love my roof top tent, wouldn't be without it. My total investment was under $500 and it was a great deal especially if you are on the trail for several days, setting up camp in a different place each night. Wind can be an issue in the desert, tent survived fine in some very strong winds. Lifted truck with sway bars disconnected rocked like a boat, and certainly rather noisy. Getting up at night after too many beers can be a pain at best and downright dangerous at times ! Large tent sleeps 2 adults , plus child and the dog comfortably and weighs 138 lbs.
Hope this helps. cheers
