When I first saw photos of the one on "sideviews" lr3 last year that had no "bars", I thought it looked very good with the lines of the lr3 but these rounded bars and especially the sloped inward middle section look terrible and do not enhance the lr3 design whatsoever. The lr3 sharp angles and strong vertical slab elements should have obviously hinted at a stronger looking front bumper, like the lower half is.

These large radius bends suck regardless of how well it is built.

What's better about that photo? - lots of glare, blurry, and no more flattering. It's also too close and creates distortion of the proportions.

I am frankly surprised with all the waiting and the mystery of what they were going to produce because the other products seem very thoughtful.

Again, the bumper was a departure from other designs and blended well with the styling of the lr3 whereas these bars are dorky and boring.

It's just blah now.

I didn't say you took it silly ... You said it was a "better" photo - but it's not much different.

Thanks for posting that second photo nwoods, it does give a better overall of the bumper. I'm still not sure about that design, maybe it will grow on me.

no it doesn't. besides basically sucking it's too close and too wide of an angle thus creating distortion.

This and above are shots that never should have been released to the public. It makes the whole deal look amateur.

I like the basic design of the bumper.

However, I do agree with those who think the round bars look out of place and dorky. Maybe with a winch, fog lamps and 2 0r 4 PIAA lights added, the bars will not be so noticeably odd looking....OR that could be like putting cologne on a pile of poo and hoping it smells better. I guess if you wanted the bumper the bars could be overlooked by the usefullness of having a steel bumper, or you could critique it to death and still never buy it. I would buy it, and at least put some lights to off-set the dorkiness of the bars.
If I were on the design team I would not have used the one tube around the headlights with the large bend in it. I think using two pieces welded in the corner by the signal light would look more LR3ish, I would definatley give the tubes some sort of a radius, so it wouldnt have a defined point on it. Maybe a bracket there so you could run a guide wire to the roof rack would be an option.

presumably there is no comparison in strength between these two and my main issue is the visual design. I also think the fog lamp holes ought to have a recessed cylindrical housing/mount and not just a hole in the flat surface.

Maybe these are still really in the design phase.....

I doubt it would be much heavier than the arb, maybe some, but not significantly.

I LOVE the ability to remove the winch without bumper removal - very good idea. Not that many people would do this but it occurs to me that with this bumper design, one could employ the benefits of only bringing the winch on trips that warrant it and leaving it out of the weather and reduced weight the rest of the time. I use our lr3 for all sorts of camping that would never need a winch and have liked the idea of the "multi-mount" warn and tray that connect to 2" receiver as needed, front or rear but that one only allows for a smaller winch and has the reduced strength due to the angles the hitch mount creates.

The fog light mount looks pretty good, I wonder how easy it is to access the rear for replacing bulbs and/or cover/lenses. One lens cover on my arb has been cracked a while because I've been too lazy to pull it apart and for now, it still works fine.

I like the design, and would put one on my LR3. I would like to see it though without the wrap around bar and just a light bar in front tabs for 4 lights.

Also I was wondering about the fog light access for repairs or light replacements.

No way to do a "slim line". Too much shit is bolted low on the LR3.
