This is gonna sound like whinning but so be it - Seems like there is always a thread about some business (Rover-related) that is slow to answer calls or return e-mails or what have you. For the life of me, I don't understand how a man can run a business by NOT answering phones or e-mails! I don't care if it's a one man show or Wal Mart Corp. - you CAN'T make money if you don't talk to your customers! Period. "Well Jim/Bob/Joe/Suzy was at _______. , Jim/Bob/Joe/Suzy is just one dude man cut him a brake, he's real busy with ____________!" - These aren't excuses. They're examples of poor customer service. You make time. Your either there to do business or your not. If you're too busy to answer a phone you can afford to hire someone to do that for you. I understand it can be hard. I understand it when you're the only guy in the shop but if you make the decision to get into business you should have figured that out BEFORE you opened your doors.

Sorry, just my take.

This has happened to me too many times to count. I've emailed several of this site's recommended parts suppliers and none of them have responded to me. I need two parts and I can't get either from Land Rover without buying a lot of shit I don't need. Even if they can't get what I want/need they could at least respond with a short email saying so. I must say though that RoverTym and Tom Woods's people were both very easy to deal with when I called them. There's so many people out of work right now that are more than qualified to answer a phone and take orders who will work for cheap. Some of these companies either need to work a little harder or hire a few extra employees.

the problem with hiring someone to answer the phones is they won't know their stuff. I don't want to call and ask a technical question and get "uhh, shit, hold on let me find out. if they will work, how many you want?"

it's not always as simple as just taking orders. Business suffers when you gain a reputation of "unreachable", but business also suffers when you have to run to the phone a hundred times a day instead of welding up an overdue bumper. the key is finding the balance, and not paying attention to the people who have their panties in a wad from an unanswered phone call. If it takes me a week to get through, then they either don't want my money, or it's a busy week. Which do you think it is?

Just got my 2" springs in today. I expect the shocks will be along shortly. This is my first experience with them, but so far, I have no complaints.

I have sliders from Hard Labor Creek Fabrication and after the bashing they got in Uwharrie, I WILL STATE. "THERE ARE OTHER OPTIONS OUT THERE......"

Holy crap, what a product line up. Off road accessories AND Access control. Two completely unrelated products. I'd stick with RTE just for that.

Knock yourself out :)

I ordered the small size 3 garter/thong set as a gift for JB...
Well, what I received was the XL 38-DD nipple cut-out bra.:banghead:
And it was 3 weeks late.

You sly devil you! ;)

However you grade RTE's responsiveness, the owners had to make a choice to work IN the business as opposed to ON the business.
I too own my own business and I am always faced with the decision to get involved with a cool project or step aside and continue to grow the business. I have that luxury to make that choice but @ RTE, I think they do not. It's a tough act to balance either way.
I know these guys are hip deep in everything that goes on, so my last set of calls to RTE, I was understanding and persistent until we talked.

About a month ago (or so) I was dropping mine off at RTE/RA to get sliders and diff guards installed, and they just told me to drop it off Sunday afternoon. Sure enough, Larry and Jordan were there working trying to get stuff done. Those guys are BUSY, and in this economy, I'm really happy for them.

I haven't always got one of them on the first ring, but they've always provided excellent service and great products. I've had no complaints, and I'm not surprised how much business is going their way.

The Rovertym "Brand" has been an established name in a VERY small niche market. Rovertym has been around waaaaaaay before the new owners go a hold of it! I'll just say this: They are making money and getting business in spite of themselves.

Has anyone considered why Steve sold Rovertym?? Two years ago I spent an entire day at his shop evaluating the machining processes that he was using. The guy was working 12 hours a day plus weekends. He intended to sell...just to get away from it.

Since you guys like to bolt these sort of things to your Rovers; thank goodness a very enthusiastic Larry and Jordan were willing to take the business over. They are there anytime of the day or night.

I've been trying to stay out of this one... I had a similar experience trying to get email answered but I that Lutz's quote nailed it. These guys are great at what they do but are awful at it all at the same time.

There needs to be a balance in any business between the hands-on wrench turning and the day to day running of a business. If they are that slamed that they can't customers then they either need to get some help in the office or the shop.

You are very correct.

I have given this some thought and it seems like Chapman should be that bitch that makes coffee, answers calls and all the other stuff that goes along with that position. He has already shown his dedication and can always get them within the first call and also has the miraculous way of getting shipping details for someone elses orders when they can't and post them in threads concerning them. This would also help avoid wasting their time taking calls and Dan having to buy extra bumpers to explain calling them for no reason.

I don't know but this may work, Dan does seem to have lots of spare time and has shown an uncanny attention to detail. And he's already doing it for free, why shouldn't he get payed for his services?

:thanks:

I went to College so that I would never have to answer phones, make coffee, or weld bumpers for a living.
