RRC purchase question?

Was thinking of checking this rig out.
http://detroit.craigslist.org/mcb/cto/1513219538.html

But since I know nothing about RRC I thought it would be wise to ask here first.

I have not seen the rig in person but it looks pretty nice in the pictures.
The ad says it "NEEDS Electronic Fuel Injection Control To Run."
So since this is a older rig are these parts even available and at what cost?

Thanks,
Steve

I assume they mean an ECU. Any of our parts suppliers should be able to get you an ECU, if that's really the problem.

You just reminded me that junkyards in Taylor are at the same distance and in the same direction from Berkley/Southfield as junkyards in Chula Vista - from where I live now...
Good times.

Haha I saw that one on CG as well the other week, sent him an email but never got any reply. I was wondering the same thing as you but I am assuming he means the ECU. That thing looks really clean for $1200.....

I thought it looked real nice as well.
I just don't even want to bother checking it out if it's going to cost a ton to get running.
There is another guy in CL list the ECU for a $150.
I just not know if this is a common failure for these trucks?

I wonder if I could switch it to a carb if all else fails?

14CUX ECU you can find pretty cheap.
Your best bet is to bring somebody who knows Lucas EFI to check it over. A friend recently bought a pristine 95 D1 for $1200 because the engine ran like crap - with crossed-over ignition leads.

Sure it can be converted to carb. It won't ever run right, most likely (Montreal90 will disagree)

You can (easily) convert to carb. You just need an intake manifold (hard) P6 rovers had the intake for dual SUs. There is also a manifold for a 4bbl American carb. (really hard to find) I currently run dual SUs on a 4.6 RPI motor. Runs GREAT. Nice low end. That being said, why would you want to? It will be cheaper and easier to fix the FI. If the controller is truly bad, look at MegaSquirt for a DIY.

One could also make an adapter to use the EFI LR manifold.
My point was - I believe that the life expectancy of engines nearly doubled when carburettors yielded to EFI. It is so ridiculously easy to maintain proper air-fuel ratio with an O2 sensor - and then you rarely have to worry about detonation from lean burn and excess fuel washing off oil from the cylinder walls when you're running rich.
