My tailgate is rusted to the point where I can use it as an extension of the rear windscreen for looking out the back. I think it's time for a new one. Thought about an aluminium one, but they're kind of pricey.

93 LWB. Would prefer one with the central locking and brake light set up, but open to anything. Rust-free, obviously.

Willing to pick up near NJ (especially if you're near someplace that would make a nice little daytrip -- I can do so 29 Aug or Labor Day weekend), or ship to 07059.

Greg,

Where can I get the aluminum tailgate? Mine is still ok but looking for spare.

Thanks,

Sal

Rovers North sells them:

Frame only: http://www.roversnorth.com/store/p-4921-aluminium-liftgate-frame-range-rover-classic-proline.aspx

Pre-assembled with glass: http://www.roversnorth.com/store/p-4667-aluminium-lifgate-assem-range-rover-wstop-lamp.aspx

There's also a company in the UK that I was thinking of buying one from in May. (I was sailing home on the QM2, so I was going to save on freight.) At ?173, at ?1:$1.65, that's about $300, plus tax/shipping. http://www.rangerovertailgates.com/

I have a nice one off an '89 for $225, Has no locking mechanism on it currently but of course one can be installed. Also it's pre-brakelight, so the area where the brakelight installs on the later models is blacked out. I put one on my '91 and plan to move the brakelight up to the top of the window where's it's more visible anyway. Has a window tint thats not in the best shape and should be removed, just didn't want to hassle with it.

I've never shipped one of these so I don't know just how big a hassle that might be. I'm sure there'd be an oversize charge and I'd damn well get the insurance on it. I'm on the West Coast, of course...
