I get an annoying noise only when I have the car in R. Not every day though. I can make it go away if I pull the hand brake.

Rumble/rattle noise in reverse only - intermittent of course.

By manual Discos this can be clutch wear.
Check the 4 nuts from rear propshaft joke. Sometimes locknuts dont lock due by hot when handbrake is not totally loose. Check axial play from both diff pinions. And if rear diff tends to have 1 turn of play, you have to check satellite gears / or their axe can be just loose.

After further review, the ruling on the field is that the passenger side cat and frame were trying to occupy the same space.
That was the rattle, but no more. A large crow bar, wrench and socket were used to correct the interference.
Now, I can't tell if the engine is running. sure.
