A rover v8 can't over rev, it floats the valves right about fuel cut or whatever.

I have an 04 D2 and my throttle cable became sticky at around the 80k mile point. Didn't stick all the way open...but it would hold the throttle open longer than I wanted until it would eventually close. It was intermittent and scared the poopies out of me.

Local shop replaced the cable and problem went away.

I had the same thing happen to my D1. Scary as hell, but it turned out that the throttle cable was misaligned with the bracket. When i pushed the gas pedal, it would act like a ratchet and not retract. It was an easy fix, I'm not sure how it happened but it hasn't happened since.
