Rust on Rear Door Hinge..Remove and Seal

I have an '04 D2 that I purchased from Utah and have brought back here to sunny So Cal. There is a bit of rust forming on the rear door hinge and it's at it's early stages. I was wondering what you guys think I should do, I know some will say leave it, but I would like to get rid of it early on so it doesn't get worst later (prob much later since it's in sunny So Cal now). Anyhow, it seems to be mainly in the space (crack) between the stationary door portion and stationary body portion (see pic below, sorry it's a cell phone pic but that's all I had here at work) where it swivels. I have rust remover gel that says don't get on paint as it will strip the paint. I was thinking maybe something less harsh like a hard bristled toothbrush and vinegar and lemon juice to remove the rust and some touch up paint to seal it. I would appreciate any advice on remov ing it and sealing it for protection. Thanks

I used CLR with good results.

Did the CLR effect your paint at all? I have a larger spot forming in the rear door jam on the passender side that I would like to take care of without having to pay a body shop to fix!

What process did you use to get rid of the rust (i.e. paint it on, soak it, etc.)

I would have never thought of using CLR!

I used a rag to apply, let it soak for about 5 minutes, then using the same rag rubbed the area.

I wasn't too concerned about the finish, but it didn't seem to affect it.

Try it on a small area that won't be seen to see the results. The stuff is pretty mild.

Does anyone know if there is a company making Stainless Steel replacement hinges? I did a quick search and came up empty. I too have a tiny line of rust forming in the mating surfaces of the rear door hinges.
