While trying to fix my cruise/c problem I noticed some water under the mat and carpet. After lifting up the carpet I found a rust spot which goes through the floor board and allows water in. There is quiet a bit of rust. The truck is a 97 with 120k miles. What should I expect from land rover when I call them in the morning??
Thanks

Are you the original owner? You didn't say.....
Does the vehicle have over 100k on it? You said 120k.

Rust warrenty is for first owner (as per Land Rover) 6 years 100k. So I would say you can expect them to say sorry, but you can bring it in and we can give you an estimate.... $$$$$

depends on if your dealer is nice or not. I think that warrenty is only good for 6 years and you are supossed to have your truck inspected for rust once a year by some LRNA rust inspector or some thing like that.. You can go and ask them if they will cover it. The worst that they can say is no.. If they tell you no then I would go to some of the better body shops in your area and ask them for estimates instead of letting the dealership outsource it for you.

I am the second owner, Knoxville TN would be the dealer I would be going to. They dont care much for me as I did not buy the vehicle from them and also don't make enough money to pay their bills.

I am thinking of using POR-15 on the rusted areas I found the info on a search on rust in this section, what is the outcome with this product???

They won't do a thing. It is a corrosion warranty, not rust and it is extended only where the alum pannels meet the steel frame.

Curtis, I beg to differ on that one... My '97 Disco had rust around the Alpine windows. I was the Third Owner with 92k on the vehicle. I went to my local dealer where I did not buy it, and they had the regional guy from LRNA come down and look at it.

He fixed it at a cost of $12xx.00 at a local body shop (same shop LR Charleston uses) he told me that normally they would not cover this since I was the Third owner and the corrosion inspections had not been maintained, but he said he would fix it if I did not come back with further rust issues in the future. (then he should me all the other rust on my vehicle  , so when I went to the body shop and had them fix it all.

Same thing happened to me, Joey...
LR Wilmington did it for my alpines ($1,200) with no questions asked. I am the 3rd owner. It had around 90,000mi on it. Also, my whole roof was looking a little rough from my rack, so they did it all as a preventative measure. As long as you are within the 6 years, it is an unconditional warranty...doesn't matter how many miles or owners the rig has. That's what they told me.

Darryll- I had the same rust problems in my 96, clean it out , dry it out and remove the scale rust and get it down to bare metal, then use por-15 to seal the bare metal and make a patch of aluminum sheet and seal with silicone or similar and srew to floor panel.... or weld in new steel and seal it up... the thing with rust is it is never just one small spot, at least not here in the northeast...

Well after getting no support from LR Knoxville I did the job my self. I used POR-15 and it came out great. I can post pictures if any body is interested.

On the same topic.. What can I do to prevent the rust around the alpine windows.. that seems like the first place it sneaks up.. should I just continously wash and wax it? I only have 52k on my DII, so just looking at the alpine windows, the seal is still great, so I dont even know where rust would start to appear.
