I Just picked up this 910 and it is my first pistol that I have purchased.

The slide was complete shit as the previous owner took a can of spray paint to it and the paint was flaking off. I then cleaned all of it up and am kinda digging the two tone look.

I need to find a good holster for it next and shoot it. Not sure if I will get the gun refinished or not.

Congratulations. I've been using the 3rd generation Smiths like yours for close to 15 years. They're great guns and boringly reliable.

Since the po was hard on it I'd get a spring kit from Wolf. I'd swap out the recoil spring and leave the others until needed. Some of the smaller springs seem to last forever.

That's a carbon steel slide so it will rust if left unprotected. Once you fire it a bit and make sure that it's a keeper I'd find a local shop that applies Duracoat. It's not pretty but it'll work.

Will you carry or do you need a holster primarily for the range? See the other holster thread for some ideas. There are a mind-numbing amount of variations that will work in the same holster. Most anything in the 5900 and 4000 series: 5906, 5903, 4006, 4046 and about two dozen other variations. The off-the-shelf choices aren't as thick on the ground as they once were, but they are out there.

PM me if you ever have any questions about it.

Stu, do you know anyone in the atl area that does good refinishig work? I've got a combat commander that belonged to my grandfather that needs it. Looking for satin nickel finishing to keep it like it was and just trying to avoid paying tansfer fees to have colt do it. A friend if mine told me about coal creek armory (I think that's the name) up in Knoxville but with as much as I travel to atl it'd be easier.

Tim I def suggest spending some cash on refinishing it. That lower money didn't last long lol.

I thought I'd post back in this thread. I just got two pistols back from getting refinished. I ended up finding a guy local. He is active SF dude very meticulous. I don't ever plan on selling either gun so I decided to do them how I wanted with a different finish but try to match the original look. These were both satin nickel guns and I couldn't find anyone that could do it close enough to justify the cost. This guy did the guns in cerakote. I am really pleased with them, but time will tell. It seems very durable.

The Colt .45 ACP 70 Series Combat Commander 1911.

it had some bad pitting and the finish didn't give it much value, it might be worth more refinished. it belonged to my grandfather.

This Colt 1908 Pocket Pistol 25 Auto was made in 1910. My grandfather carried it with him and hadn't been able to find it for about 20 years. Cleaning out his barn for a yard sale we found it in the bottom of an old wicker basket, it was nasty. There was no choice but to refinish it. I'm planning on giving it back to him for his birthday soon, he doesn't know I had it done.

I was pleased with the Cerakote on a S&W auto that I had for awhile. I didn't torture it but it seemed to hold up just fine.

Those Colts look good. That seems a decent match for the old satin nickel.

Your grandfather ought to love having that little Colt back.

That's right. I forgot about that. Well. If you find another gun and need refinishing this guy isn't far outside Nashville and the price is right.
