SAI pump

How long do SAI pumps last? The reason that I ask is because it's been louder than normal over that past year. Recently changed plugs, wires, valve cover gaskets, intake gasket, serpentine belt and purchased an Ultra Gauge. P1412 & P1415 are now showing. Checked all vacuum lines and ordered the SAI solenoid from A.B. I'm hoping that it clears, if it does not I'm guessing that it may be the pump? I have 49770 miles on our O3' Disco.

Thanks-

Those codes are your solenoid. You'll be all cleared and ready to go. Your pump is loud because the solenoid is broken and not operating properly and the pump isn't able to pump flow, it is being blocked yet told to turn on.

..or opposite problem either the solenoid or one of the valves sticks open and the pump gets full of condensation from the exhaust and dies from corrosion. Fix the valves and solenoid first or you'll destroy another pump. Vacuum solenoid valve is only about $30, I think the valves are closer to $200 and the pump is around $400 (from the dealer).

Thanks for the info. I'll start w/the solenoid as it should arrive mid-week. If the codes still come up... next will be the valves. They cost $156.95 at A.B. What is the typical mileage that you start to see problems w/the SAI? I have 49770 miles on mine. I have a friend w/twice my mileage and he is yet to have problems w/his SAI... strange.

All depends on the climate you are in. If your truck needs to run the pump all the time then it is getting a workout. Someone in a warmer climate may not have the need for the pump very often.

Get that solenoid on there and you might surprise yourself that it corrects the issue.

When you have a code for both sides of flow at the same time the work flow process is check electrical first, which is either solenoid or relay.

Update- replaced solenoid... still was flashing P1412/ P1415. Printed pages pertaining to SAI codes and discovered that the wrong harness was plugged into the solenoid. The black harness from the EVAP system purge valve was plugged into the SAI solenoid. I swapped the gray harness and the motor appeared to be running/idling much smoother. I won't know if this was the cause of the codes until the temperature gets below 131 degrees F or the morning.

Why were the harnesses incorrect? Another story... it's on me moreso my bro-in-law when we changed the wires, plugs, intake & valve cover gaskets last week we disconnected hoses etc. and reconnected all of it not knowing that there was the possiblility of the harnesses being mixed up. For the mechanically challenged like myself I wish the design was fool proof w/the male/female harnesses since they are so close in their location.

That's my update... finger's crossed.

Fixed... whoooweee! Now I only have the driver door and rear door to fix the actuators or have them fixed. After that... I wait for the next breakdown. Life w/a Land Rover.
