Sales price?

Was up at the shop getting some maintenance work done on my Range Rover and ended up talking to the shop owner about a '94 Defender that he is selling. The Defender has everything I wanted to put on my Range Rover and the added bonus of being manual and open top. I am in love.

So now I am thinking about selling my '95 SWB Classic and have no real decent idea of what I should set the price at. It is mostly stock, except for OME shocks and XHD springs, and... crap I think they are BFG all terrain tires but will have to confirm when I get home tonight. It's pretty clean, except a few scratches here and there from branches and the like. The air has been removed and it sits about as high as a stock one would with the air suspension fully raised (~2"). The running boards have been removed, and I think lost, but I may still have them. Front and rear bumpers are missing the side covers (not sure what they are actually called). The front fascia is missing and I have a couple Hella light bolted directly to the top of the bumper (in anticipation of an ARB going on in the future). Leather is in good condition (no cracks that I am aware of, etc).

I know you all are going to be very critical as if you were buying it for yourself. But I'm curious what I might list it for on the open market, like Autotrader or the newspaper.

Thanks for your thoughts, opinions, comments.

miles?

3-5k is what they seem to go for. I have seen really nice under 100k ones (all lwb though) go for 7-8 and high miles >170k and crap go for 2-3.

Oh yeah, sorry thought I was forgetting something: 130K miles.

Thanks for the reply.

It will sell for about 3k, maybe 4k if it is a california truck. I had a nice 94 lwb with 101k that I could not sell for $3500 in 3 months.

I wish I could find the classified ads that you guys are finding. I agree with you on selling price, but I have yet to actually see one sell in that range other than on here. It's the most frustrating thing I've ever seen trying to find one. From my hunting the past 3 years, I'd say the average price for a 95 SWB is about 5k to 7k in crappy to decent shape, 10k in good shape. Hell, I looked at an '88 2 months ago that had holes in the floor at least 8 inches in diameter and completely trashed throughout that was $4500. With that said, if you're not in a hurry to sell it, then ask 5 to 7, you won't sell it on here, but I'll bet somebody else will buy it for that. Oh, and these prices are regardless of mileage, low or high they sell for about the same down here.

Maybe it's a Florida thing, but I've decided to buy my Dad's '98 Tacoma 4x4 just because I've pretty much ruled out getting an RRC or a D1 as a second vehicle for a realistic price.

The 95 SWB soft dash is very desireable and will probably bring over 4k if in decent shape. I bought my 92 SWB in VERY good condiditon, CA car for 3950. I thought it was a great buy. Just depends on the condition but a 95 SWB should bring at least 4 and maybe much more. Put it on Ebay with a reserve but fix those bumper caps and put an airdamn on it if you can to help sell it. Gordo.

what color, there are tons of black ones out there it seams and they go for less, white on the otherhand seems to go for more, maybe 1,000-1,500 more.

where did the truck spend its like in rust belt area you'll get 5 grand.

if in the south or dry west you'll get 7 grand assuming it s in "good" shape

Ebay sales prices do not bear out the amount of money you guys are quoting. Anyone who wants a nice 95 LWB can have mine for 5k, I think it is worth half of that, but if anyone wants it your welcome to it.

Here is an example of what I mean, this is the typical RRC I have found over the past 3years at a typical price. I went to look at this one, rusted out floor, rusty frame, torn leather seats, stained carpets, drooping headliner, rusty tailgate, faded paint, numerous dents and dings, and it has been sitting on the lot for a few weeks with the driver side window down. I didn't stick around long enough to hear it run, but I'm sure that would have been as good as the rest of it. $6000, ridiculous!

Thanks for all the replys and the info. At least I have some basis now, and some good ideas for further research.

And just to answer a few of the questions: It is Black with a Tan interior. It is now, and as far as I know has always been a California car. I haven't looked under any of the carpets in a long time, but do not recall seeing any rust. Will have to double check that later though.

This is the only pic I can come up with now. It's a couple years old, before tires and suspension were added. Might have more at home. Anyway, I know if I sell it here on dweb I need to list it in the classified section. So if I list it publically I will be sure to post it here first.

Thanks again for the input, I really appreciate it.

The one listed above is at a dealer, I was discussing private party sales. Clearly if a dealer is selling it will cost more, even though it is probably a bigger POS.

I agree, but even a lot of the private parties are like that. There are deals to be had, but they are few and far between. I'm just bitter, I've been looking for one for a few years, but I just can't find the right one for the right price, either overpriced junk, or extremely overpriced nice ones. I bought one 4 years ago (and rather quickly got rid of) that would classify as overpriced junk, and learned a lot about these things that I now look for in every one. I guess that small mistake may have saved me over the years from making a big one.

Anyway, that '95 looks pretty nice, they seem to be the most desirable year due to the interior upgrades.
