The same issue preventing getting a Defender in the country is the same for Santana. It would be tough and $$$$ to get one in here legaly.

They are very difficult to get info on unless you speak fluent Spanish. I am using a Santana Series III gearbox and transfer case in my Daihatsu 2.8 Td conversion. Santana made a 6 cylinder petrol and diesel that were basically the 2.25 stretched by 2 more cylinders that turned out impressive horsepower and torque figures.

The LT85 is a very strong gearbox.

Santana also manufactured R&P sets that were installed in Solihull trucks.

i has it in my 110. I put some redline oil in it and that thing was so smooth, plus I loved the first and reverse layout.

Redline made a huge difference in how smooth the box shifts. I'm due for another fluid change but I have to take a loan out just to afford the fluid:p

I bought it in London then brought it over - took a few thousand dollars and about 6 months to get everything squared away - there were some tedious and frustrating moments but in the end, every form, paper, declaration, certification, promise etc has been addressed. In my driveway with new external VIN plate, registration and tag - I decided to keep it and am working on it now - it is a hoot drive ( I love the RHD) and the sound of the engine.

Hopefully '08 will make that process a bit easier. I would like to look into doing the same thing here in a bit. If I can get transferred over thre for a year it will make the whole process a lot easier. Gventure, I see you are in Apex. We are in Charlotte now but my mom is still in apex off Olive Chapel. I'd love to swing by some weekend we are in town and check out your collection. Nice to see more enthusiasts in the area.

Cheers, Josh
