I have an 03 Disco and I'm considering XM. I'd like a really nice clean install as well as clear sound. I did own a D1 and was familiar with the factory radio but do the D2s have any type of inputs to connect any aftermarket accessories? Any suggestions would be great. I did a search and read a few posts about XM etc but nothing really about connecting and mounting. I've considered mounting to the over head console (no roofs). Thanks.

Jack:

My XM radio is connected through the antenna connection with an FM modulator.
You can use one of your radio presets(mine is 89.1)for listening.

I installed an XMunit on my D2. I would strongly discourage the FM modulator. Depending on your location you get "station bleeding" while listning to XM. I went with the BLITZSAFE adapter. It allows you to directly connect your XM reciever to the factory Head Unit without the need of an FM modulator. To listen to the XM all you do is switch to CD mode on the head unit and press channel up/channel down in quick succesion, XM radio comes through loud and clear. I also mounted my unit on the overhead console. Very clean and easy to reach

so the Blitzsafe adapter allows for use of the steering wheel controls? That would be nice! Did you hard wire everything?
thanks.

I hardwired the power to the reciever. Ran the antenna and power wire between the headliner and windshield. The antenna went out the door and the power droped down the front pillar and tied into the ignition wire.

Just found this thread. Your install would be great for the tech section with pictures. Sounds like the nicest thing I've seen yet. there have been a lot of questions regarding this lately.

Does anyone know of anything along the lines of the Blitzsafe that will allow me to connect the xm to an alpine head unit so that I can eliminate the fm modulator?

I went with Sirrius because the unit had an audio out and blitzsafe makes an adapter with an audio in (eliminates fm modulator). As mentioned above I have a pretty clean install if your interested in pics let me know.

MTNHDWR - I recently purchased a Kenwood model Sirius receiver. I would love to see your set up. I am trying to figure where to mount the receiver as it seems too big to fit in front of the hi-low shifter.

Regis, If you have an aftermarket Alpine head unit you do not need the blitzsafe module or the FM modulator. You can connect strait through the AI-Net port on the back. All you have to do is buy the AI-Net to RCA adapter. It plugs directly into the AI-Net port on the back of the head and has RCA's that you can patch the XM radio into. Once it is all hooked up, you should be able to listen to XM buy pressing the source button to AUX.

Jason, Should I be able to pick one of those up at Circuit City, or is that something that would have to be ordered from alpine? Also, dumb question, but I dont have any rca outputs on the xm reciever, is there a connector for that side too?
Thanks!

Regis, Yes you can pick it up anywhere. They should have it at Circuit City. You have a Delphi Skyfi right? If so then all you have to do is run to radio shack or, even Circuit City might have them, and pick up a Stereo Phono Jack to RCA adapter. Once end will have the Stereo Headphone jack on the end and the other will have the Two RCA's on the end. Try to pick up the longest one that you can so it will reach your head unit. If you can't find a long one you will have to pick up an RCA cable too, and probably two RCA bullet connectors to put the RCA cable and adapter together. Have I lost you yet. Anyways that should be enough info to get you going.

FYI,
The longest 8mm (headphone jack) to RCA cable that Radio Shack carries is 3'. I went to my local gateway computer dealer and bought a 12' cable. This allowed the cable to run concealed from the center console at the rear view mirror to the reciever, with about 2' left over, i.e. a 6 foot cable is still too short.

MTNHDWR - Nice set up. Clean lines. Unfortunately, your receiver is a lot shallower than mine. Looks like I will have to go up on the dash.
