seat mover switch thing

Ok so I just bought a lovely 98 with power seats and the passenger seat is stuck almost up to the dash or actually my knees are... the switch moves the seat forward up down etc just not back- is there a way to move this sucker back manually- I have tried just pushing but to no avail.
Any advice?

you could try and switch the seat switches from left to right to get it moved back, otherwise you will need to pull the right switch unit apart and re-seat the springs[stretch them out a tad] clean the contacts and re-install. For this rebuild procedure you need to be adventurous to do this because when you take it apart you get a pile of springs and ball bearings..... but i have done it before and it does work, good luck -Andy

first...do the easiet....spray a wd40 into the switch, the seat rails, and on the visible moving parts of the seat on the bottom....do this for a few times, let it sit so soak in/remove dirt....then try it, worked flawlessly on my 97 disco drivers seat (only could recline, no front or rear movement, now its perfect) have also had success with other disco owners doin the wd40 spray...its probably not the BEST but its by far the easiest stop gap solution

ah, just lost my controller for the driver's side forward motion control for the back rest. wd-40 instead of electrical contact cleaner? i guess that makes since if it is a mechanical failure in the switch instead of an electrical issue... thanks for the tip.

You mean you don't like driving with your knee pressed into the fog and cruise switches?? Mine did the same thing. Take it apart and clean all of the contacts. Be careful when you do, there might be an explosion of tiny springs and bearings when you open it, so put the switch inside a shoe box when you open it.
